For the Italians, 'cabriolet' sounds too French, and maybe put to too much use by the Germans. 'Roadster' is perhaps too unrefined and it kinda sounds like 'toaster'. 'Convertible', well, that's just downright pedestrian. Like some kind of jacket that turns into a raincoat when it starts to pour.

No, Italians call them 'Spyder' - as if to say, this car can climb walls.
And here is the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder, a...topless?...version of the Gallardo introduced earlier this year.
This Gallardo Spyder comes with a 5.2 liter V10 engine delivering 560 hp and 540 Nm of torque to all four wheels; an improvement of 40 horses over the previous incarnation of this engine.
The roof retracts in 20 seconds in case you're really in a hurry to look cool.
And the E-Gear automatic now sports shift changes 40 percent quicker. Clunky shifting being a drawback of previous sequential boxes that seems to have been overcome, at least in supercar and premium ranges.
Lamborghini promises no sacrifices for this Spyder and claims its top speed of 324 km/h can be reached with either an opened or closed top.

:t-drive:

^I know that its still fast enough..
But thats not the point..the Coupe looks better imo..

Same story with F430--
997 Turbo..

All of them look better in fixed roof version..

^ I agree ... but this is the only car that I wouldn't mind it topless ...

Some more rumors from Mclaren P10:

f you all will recall we spoke of the Urus nameplate and where it came from, well the latest rumor suggest that Lamborghini will have a new BIG BULL, but not in the way all were thinking. The rumor I have heard is that the leaked financial report of the Project Urus, then we all will be truly happy. The plan of the Urus is not the 4 door saloon that is now known as the Estoque, but the Urus was slated to be the next Lamborghini SSUV. This plan was started when Stephen Winkelmann wanted to move Lamborghini into a new territory that it hasn't been in alongtime now. The plan was to use Audi Q7 chassis, with beefed up suspinsion to make it even more offroad ready, powered by a version of the Lamborghini V-10 and V12 It would feature a more coupe like profile to it with huge wheels and ground clearence. The body was slated to be made of aluminum and carbon fiber with kevlar. This plan has been cancelled due to the financial standing as well as the what if fact that we all are seeing now, what good does it do to build a high price SSUV when the market is down now.

But the plan did not completely die as I hear it, the new plan is set that the Urus Project could be reborn, but not as a SSUV, but as a new more exclusive Lamborghini supercar. Thats right a plan for another supercar priced above the JOTA, as a spiritual successor to the Reventon, but this time seeing more mainstream production with as many as 150-200 cars being made throughout the course of 3-4 years. Lamborghini C.E.O. Stephen Winkelmann would love ot see Lamborghini grow as a company and VAG supremo Ferdinand Piech likes the idea of a superfast Lamborghini to challenge Ferrari all the way. Under this idea I am forced to believe that the Urus will truly be the biggest and baddest bull ever made. The rumor also suggest that Lamborghini's Urus could push further upmarket alot closer to the Bugatti Veyron's successor. The engine of the JOTA would be enlarged from 6.0 liters to about 6.4 liters, and would feature plenty of Lamborghini Racing technology to make the horsepower rise into Ferrari FX70 territory. And with this enlarged bulls heart we should expect the horsepower rating of close to 800 BHP, from this direct injection V-12, which would be coupled to a Haldex 4 wheel drive system through a newly developed 7 speed E-Gear that would be alot faster then the on going into the JOTA. Styling would continue on the path of the Reventon, with the stealthy fighter plane look, but expect this car to be completely unique in every way. the chassis would be a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with aluminum sub frames/crash structures that would double as the suspinsion supports and engine cradle The body would be made of carbon fiber all the way about, and would feature new active aerodynamics. This car would be lower and yes wider then the JOTA, but roughly the same size. The rumor also suggest that the Urus could see production as both a coupe and a Roadster, with there being 25 of each per year for the 3 year time span. We can exoect this new supercar to feature the now well known Lamborghini scissor doors and styling will of course be carried out by Walter de' Silva, who also pinned the Reventon and the Muira Concept. I lso hear rumor that lambrghini could be planning to have Bertone help with building the Urus if it does enter production.

I pray this rumos is true, I would love nothing mroe then to see Ferrari and Lamborghini truly go at it on a level playing feild just once wihotut Lamborghini tryign to keep up! I will kepe my ear out for more news, so stay tuned, I hope to have soem mroe news later this evening!!!

PS
I suggest all to take every rumor i post with a fist of salt..:D

Press Release

Automobili Lamborghini, creator of the world’s most exclusive super sport cars, today held the worldwide debut of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560—4 Spyder at the Los Angeles Auto Show. As the successor to the best-selling Lamborghini of all time, the new LP 560-4 Spyder combines the Coupé’s design, performance and handling characteristics with the open-air pleasure only a soft top super sports car can deliver.

As the brand’s largest global market, the United States – specifically Southern California - was strategically chosen as the perfect location to unveil the new open top super sports car. In 2007, Southern California contributed to approximately 30 percent of all Lamborghini sales in the United States, maintaining its position as the country’s most successful region.

“The LP 560-4 is the best example of the Gallardo to date and will be a great contribution to Lamborghini’s future success,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The entirely new LP 560-4 Spyder adds another dimension to the Gallardo’s lineage with extreme design language and class-leading performance.”

The much anticipated Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder offers a new 5.2 liter engine with 40 additional horsepower than its predecessor; allowing it to sprint from 0-62 mph in only four seconds with a top speed of 201 mph. The car’s agility has also been greatly refined with a new, lighter transmission, which allows increased shift times by 40 percent (Corsa Mode), combined with an all-new chassis, suspension and Lamborghini’s permanent all-wheel drive system. Despite increased performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 18 percent.

Since 2003, more than 8,500 Gallardos have left the production facility in the birth place of all Lamborghinis in Sant’Agata, Bolognese, Italy. The Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé was first unveiled to the world at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008 with the dynamic launch taking place in Las Vegas later that spring. Each person who experienced the new Gallardo on the track or the streets unanimously agreed: the Gallardo LP 560-4 is an all-new car that can be enjoyed on any driving surface. Since, the new Gallardo has been critically acclaimed by customers and the media for its extreme performance, aggressive design and increased drivability. The highly anticipated LP 560-4 Spyder is set to continue this legacy. The Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder is now available to order from dealers worldwide, with customer deliveries commencing Spring 2009.

In 2007, the United States market accounted for 39 percent of total Lamborghini sales worldwide and remains the brand’s largest global market. Since the beginning of 2005, Automobili Lamborghini has strategically increased its global reach from 65 to 119 dealers worldwide; 31 of these dealers are located in the United States. Last year was a record year for the brand with 930 Lamborghinis delivered in the United States and 2,406 delivered worldwide.
