| F1 coming to Korea by 2010 F1 coming to Korea by 2010 Following this past Sunday's race in China, F1 head-honcho Bernie Ecclestone flew down to South Korea to sign a seven-year contract for the addition of a Korean Grand Prix. The races are to be held at the Korean International Circuit currently being planned for Yeongam in the south-western province of South Cholla, about 240 miles south from Seoul (read: far from the DMZ). The 5.45-kilometer track will start construction next year and should be done by 2009, with the first race scheduled for 2010. Formula One has been shifting away from its historically Euro-dominated tour, with more and more races in Asia. China, Japan and Malaysia all host grands prix (with Australia just southward down the Pacific). Turkey and Bahrain (closer to the Middle East than the Far East) are two of the most recent additions to the calendar, while European races are being cancelled, and more Asian locations – including Singapore and India – are rumored to be under consideration. | Re: F1 coming to Korea by 2010 Not really a fan of the new races. The tracks have no authentic F1 feel to it with their miles and miles of runoff area. I wonder how I can be a fan with Schu gone and F1 moving further and further away from its European base. |

| Re: F1 coming to Korea by 2010 Don't know really what to think. I'll make up my mind when the track is finished and I've heard driver's reviews of it.

| Re: F1 coming to Korea by 2010 Well, it's pretty a fact that Ecclestone wants F1 to have a more international range... and the price for that is less races in Europe. So I'm sorry to say, down the line, expect cuts in Europe.

| Re: F1 coming to Korea by 2010 Why are the banks that own F1 so stupid? I think they've let Bernie dick them around. Personally, I believe that fly-away races outside of Europe hurts F1 in its major Euro markets. |

Well F1 is, or wants to be an international/global sport. Personally I don't have a problem with races outside Europe. But they should keep the european tracks too. And yes the banks let Bernie jerk them around. | |
