US Grand Prix in 2009?

Talks between the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Bernie Ecclestone to resurrect the US Grand Prix may now have begun.

Tony George, the famous Indy 500 venue's chief, told an audience at the IU business conference in Indiana this week that he is pursuing options to patch up the relationship with the F1 Chief Executive in time for the Speedway's centennial celebrations in 2009.

The American broadcaster Speed TV also revealed that Just Marketing, a local company, has been hired by the IMS to help find a Formula One title sponsor.

Just Marketing President Zak Brown said George and Ecclestone have a 'strong interest' in reuniting as soon as possible.

"If the right sponsors can be put into place, I think this can happen in 2009," he added, insisting that the interest from lucrative potential race sponsors is already "fairly high."

I hope it's no longer at Indy. May be vegas? I hope so, cuz that would be closer to my house and a LOT more things to do in Vegas than Indy.

I don't know of a track in Vegas, but is it good enough to host an F1 race???

Re: US Grand Prix in 2009?

Las Vegas has a "nice" big oval thing for nascar, but that is it.
A few years ago the city was working on a deal to build a track for F1, but some ass in city hall gave the land to one of his friends and it is now a golf corse.

There is a track there, but it's not suitable for F1, yet. Honestly, there is enough land there for them to build a track, or at least expand the one that is currently there.

Re: US Grand Prix in 2009?

So the Vegas track is basically oval? Hmmm very tricky. Building an F1 track isn't exactly cheap either, someone has to pay for it. If not Indy I can't see how F1 will return to US anytime soon. Bernie has already planned on letting countries in Asia like India and UAE hosting races in the very near future.

Re: US Grand Prix in 2009?

The only circuits I can think of, that have the potential to host an F1 race, are Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca. On my Xbox(Forza Motorsport) I've driven both tracks, and if renovated to accommodate thousands of spectators they can bring F1 back to the US. Though the infrastructure and hotels around the track need to be top notch as well, Bernie isn't exactly the type who accept circuits located in the middle of nowhere.

This is Vegas, we have many little motels that cost over 1 Billion each to build.
The city built several large building complexes for the world market, (some big furniture market) it cost over 100 million and it is only used for two weeks a year. It paid for itself the first time it was used.
I think it would not be too difficult to build a track here. If there is one thing this city knows, it is money.

Believe me, if Monterey Historics can be held near Laguna Seca, so can an F1 race. But the problem is the cork screw at Laguna Seca, I don't think F1 cars will be good on that corner. I don't know much abour Road Atlanta, so I can't say much.

But yeah, if they can bring F1 to Laguna seca, I'm all for it. It's only a few hours away from my house.
