| Speculation: Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada SUV ![]() ![]() Cayenne Turbo killer Lamborghini already had an SUV for sale more than 25 years ago and today Porsche's Cayenne is a global success. Ferrari hesitated for a long time but has now decided to develop the world's fastest SUV, or so says our Italian contact with insider info. Our DTP expert than set to work with this information and produced the following renderings. The project has been coded the "Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada" and its supposed world debut target date is the Geneva Auto Show 2010. While the five-door will feature four-wheel drive its off-road capabilities are not among the top priorities of the Ferrari development team. Two-thirds of the engine's power is rumored to be transferred to the wide 22-inch high-performance street tires in the rear. The engine is familiar and hails from the Ferrari F599 Fiorano, albeit in slightly modified form. Its maximum power output of more than 600 hp and 600 Nm of torque will be a challenge for the size 315 tires front and back. Despite an empty weight of around 2.2 tons the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is supposed to take less than five seconds, thanks to Formula 1-type shift paddles on the steering wheel. Targeted top speed is 300 km/h. With a top speed such as this the Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada would easily eclipse the performance of a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, just as easily as it would eclipse its price at projected 250,000 Euros plus. | Speculation: 2010 Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada SUV ![]() Huh; a Ferrari SUV? We admit, it does sound weird but as the saying goes, “where there’s smoke, there’s a fire”. And if anything else, we’ve been hearing a lot about Ferrari’s intentions to broaden up its line-up with a high-performance SUV. We won’t lie to you and say that we have inside information on the SUV project, but if Porsche did it successfully with the butt ugly Cayenne (and without denting its image), we can’t find a reason to as why Ferrari shouldn’t. This rendering, which we acquired from our newly found friends at the Romanian car website “Automarket”, was created by Andrei Avarvarii. Unlike other propositions for a Ferrari SUV that we’ve seen in the past, the FS 599 Fuoristrada (according to Automarket, that’s the codename Ferrari uses), looks quite good combining styling elements from the past and the present. The guys at Automarket support that Ferrari company bosses are attempting to seal a business agreement with the Fiat Group as we talk. Basically, Ferrari has to convince Fiat that that the SUV project will be profitable in order to get the final okay. In this case, the model will most probably make its worldwide premiere at the Geneva Show in 2010. Here are the initial specs that Automarket posted: weight 2,200 kg / 4,850 lbs, +600 HP, less than 5 seconds for the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint, 300 km/h (185 mph) top speed and a price of around 250,000 euro or $360,000 (in Europe). | Re: Speculation: 2010 Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada SUV Ferrari exec denies SUV rumors ![]() Rumors of an SUV model from the likes of Lamborghini and Ferrari are rife but according to top officials there’s no chance of it seeing production anytime soon. The rumors concerning such a model from the traditional performance brands arose because of the success Porsche has had with its Cayenne. During a recent interview, Ferrari general manager Amedeo Felisa said there were no plans for an SUV or crossover, reports AutoWeek.nl. This matches earlier comments from rival manufacturer Lamborghini, who’s CEO Stephan Winkelmann said there were no considerations for an SUV model either. Ferrari has, however, experimented with AWD systems for the F430 but those plans have also been dropped because of the extra 80kg such a system will add to the car’s kerb weight. According to Felisa, a RWD model achieves the same performance as the AWD versions on a dry track. As for rumors of the entry-level Dino, Felisa reminds us that Ferrari has already denied speculation of the Dino in an earlier press release. There will “absolutely” be no six-cylinder model, he claimed.

| Re: Speculation: 2010 Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada SUV I doubt it will happen. Unlike Porsche, Ferrari is not trying to increase their volume by huge margins - so they don't need another model line. They can achieve whatever little growth they are targeting by just increasing the manufacturing capacity of the existing models - just look at the waiting periods. |

| Re: Speculation: 2010 Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada SUV More nonsense: ![]() Your eyes are not deceiving you – this SUV has a prancing horse on the bonnet. In a move set to cause a stir across the world, Ferrari is considering putting its famous name to a rival for the Porsche Cayenne. Called project F151, the prospect of a Ferrari SUV will cause uproar with car enthusiasts across the globe. However, the firm’s bosses have watched the success of Porsche’s 4x4 with interest, and want to increase profits. With a practical interior, estate car luggage capacity and rough-road ability, the model would open the Ferrari range up to a huge new customer base. Still in its early stages, the project is yet to be given the green light by bosses nervous of tarnishing Ferrari’s legendary brand image. Our shots shows what the classy off-roader could look like in showroom-ready trim. At around five metres long and two metres wide, the jacked-up Ferrari would offer luxurious transport for five passengers to travel in style. While designers face the challenge of making the Ferrari beautiful, engineers have to make it live up to the firm’s dynamic reputation. Powerplants are yet to be finalised, but it’s thought that the Ferrari will be offered with a choice of V8 and V12 engines from the firm’s existing stable. The four-wheel-drive transmission will be a more difficult challenge. With no system of its own available, Ferrari is expected to develop existing technology borrowed from another car maker, with Mercedes the hot favourite. A cheaper alternative would be to use Ferrari’s own rear-drive 612 Scaglietti platform. Coupled to a hi-tech traction control system, the running gear could be set up to cope with off-road conditions, but it’s most likely the maker would focus on class-leading handling. While an SUV from sister firm Maserati was planned, bosses have shelved that idea in favour of a Ferrari 4x4 with a higher price tag. Buyers will be asked to pay well in excess of £100,000. If the F151 gets the go-ahead, the Ferrari will be revealed in concept form in 2010 before going on sale a year later. Ferrari SUV | Auto Express News | News | Auto Express M
