The E-Class DOES look really good in person, but I'm surprised people thought this highly of it. To me, the E-Class seems very conservatively styled. Well, to each his own... at least the E looks better than the other four picks.

I bet the voters from Autoild doesnt even have a license yet or the money to buy the cars they are voting for. I doubt these award is going to affect the sales. But I dont mind if you have some sort of proof to show me I'm wrong. I'm not going to argue further about it. If people like these kind of awards, then good for you. I'm not holding it against anyone. I've just stated my personal opinion.

| ^my personal opionon is that ppl buy cars so i rather have a award like this..than from a fag jury who think they know car design or art.. and who consist of 0.1% of worlds population..and rides bikes or drives VW bugs cause its artsy..

I finally saw the new E-Class yesterday and I'm even more unimpressed with it in person than in pictures. The interior is nice in its way, but I prefer the styling and overall feel the 211's over it, but I'd say besides technology and engineering, the interior is one of the strong points. The exterior is such a giant fail to me, it's pretty disappointing. It does look MUCH better with an AMG Package though, but truly nice cars should look good enough in basic form too.

Well said. And furthermore, who cares what the readers of Autobild think? The fact that they gave this car the award means the design works well on a variety of people and that is a good sign. I saw two W212 E-Classes yesterday (see Spotted Today) and they look faboulous in my opinion. It might take awhile before the design works on some people but I think it does a great job of combining styling cues from the past (W124 boxiness) and present (W210 and especially from the W211). The whole car looks like a boxier W211 and I have no problems with that. Boxy styling was (is) part of MBs styling heritage, not only for cars.

Ok, I love Mercedes-Benz, but the Face-lift S-class deserves this way more so then the E-class.

I get to see the new E in the flesh for the 1st time next week. In the pics, I can't stand the rear arch. It just looks so contrived. I do like it on the coupe. I just think the car would have looked better without the rear arch and without the forward slanted crease on the side.

Great post, to the point..It`s interesting that the new Z4 didn`t even make the top 5 and even I think it`s a good looking car. Somehow I still think the design isn`t going to last. Thats typical of mini-droptops...
