Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

I'm not crazy about this car but I have to say that it looks pretty nice in silver. I bet that the American tuners are dying to get their hands on it. It's a shame that the interior lacks any form of flair or personality.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

I really don't like it. Nothing more than automotive sentimentalism. It has no meaningful context in the modern world beyond mere nostalgia. Price-wise in the US, how does this compare to a 335i Coupe?

Can't say that you're wrong, because I too feel that it doesn't bring anything new to the table in forms of power/performance or design.

Price-wise it's a little cheaper than the 335i

335i: $40 000
Challanger: $38 000

Style or substance? You make the choice.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

Whoever decided to botch the interior by reaching into the corporate parts bin needs to be shot, or at least given a really nasty Dutch rub.

I thought this car had promise until I saw those gauges, and that four-spoke steering wheel that looks for all the world like it was ripped out of a PT Cruiser or Sebring. What the hell?

Now it feels as though this car is another shitty product of American bean-counting underneath a classic-car costume. The $250 or whatever they saved per unit by using their standard-issue wheel & gagues absolutely killed the spirit of this car.

They could have at least used a three spoke wheel - ANY three spoke wheel.

I see the future - "SRT8 Interior upgrade: $1,200." Stupid. Just stupid.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

The Challenger looks stealthy in all black. I would throw a pair of iridescent strips on it, and voila--my Knight Rider.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

I love the outside, but the interior just doesn't suit this car at all. It looks too tame and boring. It looks like it belongs in some tame family sedan and not in an evil performance machine.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

I was really stoked when I saw the concepts interior. I really was, the pistol grip shifter and all that. I was stoken when I heard there would be a 6-speed on the SRT-8 6.1L engine. I was stoked when I heard they would try to keep the butterfly valves on the hood functional.

I'm let down. Give me a white STi with gold wheels over this any day of the week.

Yes precisely. The kind of sex that you wake up the morning after having with a blinding headache and an "Oh my gosh what was I thinking?!?" realisation.

No, I believe that this is more like the wild and freaky sex to where you wake up the next morning and say "Damn...that sh!t was crazy" and then you run from the girl because she is a bit much to handle for on a day to day basis and is quite high maintenance...

^ Now, I really don't like the direction this metaphor's going in...!

That said, if that's the experience you're drawing parallels with then I'd have to say that's the last kind of long-term motoring relationship I'd want to have.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

Who ever said Retro was dead.
This thing is a real throw back to the 70s... Looks really hot in black!

I`d really like to know why everyone seems to be b!tching about the interior.
American muscle cars never had CLK, 3-Series interior designs.

The Muscle cars are supposed to have that "stripped-down" look (thay had it in the late 60s and 70s). It`s not about fashion.

Here is an example of a 1968 Dodge Charger interior.

The new Challenger still has that stripped look, it`s just happens to be a little more ergonomic. (Btw that steering wheel is from the Charger SRT.)

Hey, I never did say that I'd buy it. LOL What my example means is, that I'd love to drive it once and FLOOR it, but I wouldn't want to live with it everyday.

Exactly. I've said it before. This car isn't supposed to be a fashion statement and neither is it supposed to be a german car competitor. And at the same front, there is no German car on the road today that will offer what this car does.

I'm dead serious, You have to be into muscle cars to understand this. If you're not into muscle cars then this car doesn't make any sense.

Stripped?? You mean more like bare entry level car. I fail to see anything muscle-car like or stripped about it. It completely lack any sort of flair and personality.

Even the current Mustang looks better on the inside, and it's due replacement next year.

Well said Ramen!

And Luwalira, I agree with you there! I believe Dodge could have thrown in a more personality. I do however believe you understand the principles of what I`m talking about though...

I would like to add that even the Mustang has that stripped look to it.
What I mean by that is that it`s simply not decorated.

Naruto and Martinbo, you're both wrong.

This is the "only when I see you" type of sex.

Out of sight, out of mind, but when in the presence....get in and drive.

Lol, I was thinking more along the lines of Rick James, Superfreak.."She's a very kinky girl. The kind you don't take home to mother....She's a super freak, super freak, She's Super Freaky!"

Rick James > Gucci Mane. LOL

While the rights to the first 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 brought $400K at Barrett-Jackson last weekend, we'd rather have the 43rd car built, which will go up on eBay's virtual auction block from February 12 to February 22. Chrysler is working the numerology angle, linking the 43rd Challenger to living legend Richard Petty and the #43 he made famous while driving Mopar stock cars to victory over his long racing career. Pre-qualified bidders will have the opportunity to take home the 43rd Challenger built, which will be the only one finished in B5 Blue in a nod to the Petty Blue (or Corporate Blue) finish that adorned The King's racers. Carbon fiber-look hood stripes, a chrome fuel filler lid and a numbered dash plaque finish this particular one-off appearance package, and the auction winner also gets a VIP Package to this May's Dodge Challenger 500 NASCAR race at Darlington. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Petty family's Victory Junction Gang Camp, so it's for a good cause. Wanna bid? Go here to get pre-registered.

- No. 1 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 sold for $400,000 at the Barrett- Jackson Collector Car Auction on Jan. 19

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Dodge and the Victory Junction Gang Camp have partnered to auction the 43rd 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8(R) on eBay beginning Feb. 12, 2008. The auction timing coincides with Petty Enterprises celebrating 50 years of racing at Daytona International Speedway.

"As a long-time friend of the Pettys, Dodge is delighted to be able to auction the No. 43 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with all the proceeds going to Victory Junction Gang Camp (VJGC)," said Mike Accavitti, Director -- Dodge Brand and SRT Global Marketing, Chrysler LLC. "The No. 43 Challenger will be the only 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 to be painted B5 Blue, this certainly will be an added draw for potential bidders and help out VJGC."

"Dodge has been a staple in the Petty Family and we are thrilled to know that they are partnering with Victory Junction and helping send more kids to camp," said Pattie Petty, VJGC Founder.

The all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 features the proven 6.1-liter HEMI(R) V-8 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, a race- inspired interior and an exterior design stays true to Challenger heritage while delivering host of modern features and technologies and "race inspired, street legal" SRT DNA.

Developed by Chrysler's in-house performance engineering organization, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 was engineered with a focus on the five pillars of every SRT vehicle: bold exterior design that resonates with the brand image, a race-inspired interior, world-class ride and handling across a dynamic range, a standout powertrain and benchmark braking.

"The original Dodge Challenger was such an awesome car. I'm happy to see Dodge bringing back such a classic. There is only one way to make the release of the new Challenger better," said Kyle Petty. "That is to paint one similar to The King's famous No. 43 and auction it off for the Victory Junction Gang Camp. The Pettys and Dodge have enjoyed a great relationship. It's an honor to work with them on such a worthwhile program because it will give more kids a chance to go to camp."

The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will make its worldwide debut on Feb. 6, at the Chicago Auto Show.

Interested bidders are required to register with eBay prior to bidding. Registration information can be found at eBay: Redirect .

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

Despite what i have said about it in the past, the patriotic blue color makes it one very attractive car. Still not keen on the generic interior though.
