So, to sum up the view of a few here on the board, someone like EnI, who has information and an attitude, should be questioned and put under the lights, while other members, without information but with an attitude, should not?

I actually enjoy reading the threads, albeit sometimes I feel obligated to point out BS or inconsistencies when I see them. Are you suggesting that only unwavering supporters of their input visit this area?

I don't know how you got there Doc.

I have read all these posts and the most consistent concern that has come from this debate is that they moderate their own section. And that is a valid concern, particularly given the that fact that it was "cloaked" from the community. Every "critic", in one way or another, has stated appreciation for their input.

So give me a break with the summation.

True Artist :D I didnt think of it but if people stop quoting each others then it would work perfectly. Use your angry face and tell members to stop quoting :t-applaus

That might be true here and now but I feel that there are many that just does not like EnI, hell, I don't... but there is no other member that has to take nearly as much bashing. But that is the way it is, you are always exposed at the top.

Mind many here (me included) are not native English speakers.
Nor I was schooled in some English-speaking country / or even college.

Nor I'm a schooled theologian ... so - please forgive me - when not using words like symbol, character, figure, icon words 100% correctly. :t-cheers:

It was not my intention to call Christ a "symbol" to degrade him.
Since in my native language we say eg. "Christ is a symbol of all Christians" ... and I just used the same phrase here .... :t-hands:

As said: sometimes we are not aware of all the personal, cultural, lingual etc differences between members - since we indeed are a very colorful community. Therefore some jokes, expressions, phrases etc. can be sometimes perceived in a completely wrong context. Not every time some words (form) are said with an intent to insult or offend ... Due to all the differences a noise in communication can occur ... things get "lost in translation" ... from language to language, from mind to mind etc. Therefore live communication in person is much easier - when you can see a person you communicate with ... his / her face expression, body language ... and you can here her / his voice (tone, color etc) ... it's much easier to identify the context of the said words. In written form that's a bit more difficult ... We can use smilies to emphasize our intention - but even that can get perceived in a wrong way. Therefore a bit special protocols & forms are used in written forms (usually more formal) ... But in eg. internet communities or blog comment sections where informal spoken-like language is used, usually comes to frictions - due to the comm. noise & wrong perception of the message. Since we are used written comm. has a greater weight & formality level than eg. spoken word. And therefore we take it more seriously - even in the case when not appropriate to take it seriously.

    :t-cheers:

Such almost-live written communication is new to the humankind ... since the tech now allows that. In the past mostly paper was a medium for written comm. between people. And it it took a long time to get a reply ... Now you get it instantly. Yet such written comm. is not yet adapted to such comm. tempo - neither are the people.

So, people - a bit more patience would be nice. From all sides. :t-cheers:

Your statement is not correct. Anyone can see at all times who moderates a section (as long as they are not Global Moderators, which would be redundant to list them on each and every section).

In order to see who moderates a specific section, simply look at any section page and scroll down. If there's a specific member assigned as moderator, he/she will automatically get listed there. Both EnI and SCOTT27 are listed on this section.

Now, keep in mind that they are not actual 'Moderators'. Meaning, some Contributors (by request) have some moderating capabilities such as editing, merging, closing threads, making stickies, and in extreme cases 'soft deleting' posts/threads, which reduces the overhead that the staff has moderating the entire community; but they do not have the full moderation capabilities of an actual Moderator, i.e.: they can't ban/unban members.

    EnI,

All is well, I too will try to be more considerate, respectful and appreciative in the future. :t-cheers:

BTW and respectfully, I still don't think you should moderate this area. Even when your actions are sound and justified, they will viewed with much skepticism. Why not let others in this community take over that responsibility?

I have a quick question. Now I have seen a lot of members in here post what EnI and Scott may or may not be doing wrong. I believe that EnI and Scott are doing a fantastic job.

But my main question has to do with the forum Rules -

I have seen several members break these rules almost constantly (Not EnI or Scott) yet they haven't been banned or received any type of warning. Some have even been encouraged (supported) or thanked by other Members & Moderators.

What is the exact "process" for a member being banned (Weeks, Monthly & Permanently)?

    I am:D

    Hello HOH,
Depending on the severity, it can be from a few days to permanent banning. Actual spamming and trolling are an exception where we will permanently ban those accounts, without warnings or infractions.

On other cases, we'll research the cause of such behavior, and either use the warning/infraction system and/or directly ban if necessary.
Usually we'll try to reach a consensus and base our final decision on facts, such as i.e. disruptive behavior toward the community, a member, a specific section of our site, etc.

We prefer to use the Infractions system (please read that section of the Rules), instead of warning by PM, etc. Reasons also explained on the rules page.

Also, from the General Posting Guidelines, I'd like to quote a paragraph:

"The staff can’t read EVERY single post on the forum; however, in the event that an inappropriate post is overlooked, there is a strong chance that some member will report it to the moderators. Any threads/posts of this type will be deleted."

That is telling everyone we can't read every single post, however, if you feel there are members that post inappropriate content, please feel free to 'report it'. I made the reporting system so that it automatically creates a thread and posts it in our Administration section for all Mods to read, plus it sends an email to alert them if they are offline.
Now, since you mention you've seen some posts thanked by moderators, please do send me a PM with the specific posts/thread so that I can check; unless it's on this section, currently we are all closely reading it and monitoring it...

In some circumstances, like mentioned on the rules, we may not be able to 'catch' the offending post on time, but rest assured that the offending member(s) will be watched closely, especially if it's a relatively new member (based on post #s) and his/her posting history shows a pattern as to coming to the site with no other reason than to disturb and/or harass an existing member, be it by hijacking his/her thread(s), insulting, etc.

One thing that keep coming up and is annoying me quite a bit now.

Eni provides info and is insulting, but it's OK because he has info, so in turn we should turn on the "regular" members because they don't have info.

Are you serious? Oh, I'm f__king sorry that I, and many others, are just "regular" folks who don't have contacts inside major corporations. If WE ALL had insider info, this will not be a regular forum but would be an industry forum, kind of like what NeoGaf is for games industry. Just because I don't have contacts doesn't make Eni, or anyone else, better than me. It's f__king insulting to be put down for not having info because this forum and all other forums were not built by "professional" members but regular folks who take out time from their day to come online have a chat. I've made over 6000 posts and not one of them had any insider information, but Eni has made over 7000 posts and not even 10% of those were "informational".

Are you thinking of me? I oposed because I felt that people seemed to think it was ok to bash EnI just because that (I do not know if there is a male or a female behinde that screen name) is a high profile user with information.

Thanks for the timely explanation! Will do ASAP!

You seem to imply that some of us are for a special treatment for eni which is exactly the opposite of what we have said.

    Good for you. ;)

Nope, all I'm saying is that just because the rest of us aren't affiliated with any companies don't give people who are the right to talk down to us and other members here tell us that we aren't on their level. If that's how sh!ts gonna be then I have better things to do in life then be looked down upon and would consider my 6000 thousand posts and countless hours on here a waste.
