The Lexus IS-F will now be equipped with £30,000 worth of on-board computers and communications equipment for use by the police. Sergeant Mike Peck, of the Humberside Police Roads Crime Section, said, “The purchase of the vehicle was far from an easy decision and involved research and advice from the force fleet manager, financial managers and a vehicle dynamics expert. "The Lexus was tested during a 12-month period, along with similar vehicles, and proved itself to be ideally suited in providing a dynamically safe high-performance chassis along with an electronically stable platform for the computer equipment. In the past this equipment has placed huge demands on vehicles, but the Lexus IS-F easily met with our requirements." The Lexus IS-F is powered by a 417bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine capable of reaching 62mph in 4.8sec. It will still have its top speed electronically limited to 168mph, as with the standard road car. The reason for that choice is obvious. The bodykit of the IS-F is so tacky it puts any tuned car of any bad guy to shame, reducing it to a set of tasty and subtle improvements... Seriously though, it's a very suited car for this, but given the english weather, RWD is a tad risky...
With this crap English weather, that thing will be as useless as a drunk driver in a Vauxhall Nova with four flat tyres.. Why not a fleet of Rs4s??? Now they would make perfect police cars! Only plus side about an IsF police car is I now have a genuine reason not to commit crime if so I will be put in a LEXUS, made to suffer and crash and die!
This is a metropolitan police car, the stickers are a whole lot different from the police Astras around my area, they look some what messy.
My guess is an RFP was issued, and it all came down to the pricing which Toyota/Lexus offered. That car does look pretty nice in white with the Popo decals.
The forces still use quite a lot of Subarus and Mitsubishi's! Theirs a Mitsubishi Outlander tuned by Ralliart as a local car in my town
That's pretty much how it works. It's not always the best car that wins, but the car with the best deal. In this case Toyota/Lexus probably had the best deal.
Yeah, I had a chat with an officer about the Chargers. Turns out that it's a freakin' V6 and not a hemi. So in other words, not fast at all.
