Something Wicked This Way Comes As the Black rolls off the ramps and into London's early evening gloom, the countdown begins. One single night. For all our begging and cajoling, that's all the time Mercedes has given us in the Black. Oh, and if it leaves London, mustachioed German heavies will turn up at Top Gear HQ and murder us in new and interesting ways. The most powerful AMG Merc ever, the SL65 Black Series, the car christened "Der Beast" by its Frankenstein-esque creators, and we're limited to one night in the most congested, cramped city in Europe. And just to make things more interesting, the previous day saw the heaviest snowfall in Britain in 20 years. Snow that's freezing rapidly into sheets of ice on the roads, making 670 hp and rear-wheel drive look a tad suicidal. Still, one night. The clock is ticking. Let's head underground. The Blackwall Tunnel seems a good place to start. We spear south under the Thames, a thousand rings of dim, flaxy streetlight whipping backward over the Black's flanks as it dives deeper below London. There is noise, and that noise is...whistling. The car is whistling. It's an ominous, unearthly noise, a murderous chorus of Roger Whittakers rising and falling as the turbos suck frozen air through the tunnel's south entrance and spit it out behind. As the lights on the rev counter flash, climb and glow to red, the Roger Whittaker medley subsides. Now there's raw mechanical noise, a dozen cylinders threshing a metallic, overdriven chorus. Speed, too. The increments on the speedo are ticking off with alarming haste as the Black barrels out of the tunnel and back into the London night. Fack they are impressive pictures. We need them in wallpaper sizes.. First set of pictures which really capture the true, dark and evil side to the car Full album http://www.topgear.com/us/photos/categories/category/something-wicked/
^^Thanks for the link man. And yes, they need to be in wallpaper sizes. Wonder if we can email them and ask.
You know what the cool thing about Britain is? Lot's of awesome places to take cool pictures with cars. It's almost impossible to find such places in Germany for example. Try finding a nice old castle here that hasn't been ruined with stupid ass traffic signs or big ass trash bins posted in the wrong locations. It annoys the hell out of me!:t-banghea This shot right here....pure awesomeness! If this were in Germany there would be a big fat trash can somewhere and some stupid "20 km/h" sign posted somewhere in that tunnel. Yeah, as if any sane person would speed in there! :t-crazy2:
Stunning photography and great review… …@Narutao: maybe you can write them an email - would be pure perfection if these would be in wallpaper size!!!
Oh my god, love these pictures. It's just a wonderful car  Would be great if we can get the pictures in wallpaper size :eusa_pray
OMG!! Just look at this: John Wycherley Photography There are much more stunning photo… Love the style…
Don't forget photoshop work. The days the photographer is as important as the digital image enhancer who spend 6-8 hours making photographs come to life in photoshop. Master the software and you'll be king at producing captivating photographs. A good camera helps too. Awesome imagery by TopGear nonetheless.
Ahh yes, the SL65 black series. Such a beautiful car, but at the same time such a terrifying car. Looks like AMG hasn't forgotten how to make a monster. Let's hope they keep it up
HoH, the SLS should be a terrifically dynamic car; AMG has put today's best automotive technology into that car and it should pay off. I am anxiously waiting for that car. IMHO, the SL65 BS is an absolute disaster. I don't think I would be too far off the pace if I were to call it an 'SL65 on steroids.' Looks aside, it is just a pointless exhibition of extravagance that simply fails to deliver on its purported aims, that of being an ultimate track tool with crushing power. Instead, what we have is a firm-riding, prone to understeer, lack of feedback coupe with ballistic power that will break traction on a dry road at 80mph, with a gearbox from the stone ages, and a price that makes the standard SL65 look like a bargain. Ridiculous, pointless and excessive. For the love of God Mercedes, you can do luxury cars very well, but please make your fast cars fun to drive! 670bhp + two-tonnes + 5 speed auto = one-trick pony. (IMHO, of course). On the other hand, Front mid-engined, RWD + 571hp (N/A) + DSG + 1.5 tonnes = serotonin x 1000.
Thank you for posting that.......though I love the SL65 BS, the SLS will be in another league. I can't understand how any Mercedes fan could not be excited about the SLS. Seriously, Mercedes is getting over having the biggest hp figures so their fans should too because 670hp means nothing if it can't be fully used. The SL65 BS while unique is still closer to the old AMG, the CLK63 Black, C63 and hopefully the SLS and E63 are the new AMG a more well rounded product. M
Ah - nicely put Bilal. As impressive as the SL65 BS is, it remains - surprisingly - unconvincing. Especially for the performance car afficionado. Having had the privilege to view the car in the flesh I can concur that it is dramatic in its presence - no doubt. But when the time comes to consider cars that inspire one to drive them, this BS never comes to mind. (Unlike the CLK 63.) Somehow, the overriding impression of the SL 65 AMG BS is that of a car that was engineered around the numbers as opposed to having the numbers engineered into a car. The SLS will be every bit the latter. I have no doubt about that at all.
