Big applause to Top Gear for this. Must be one of their best segments ever. It was a hilarious waste how they went around the world to test the car. Seriously I had no idea that the car was so useless as an off roader. So much for sports activity coupe. The car is about as athletic as an overweight retired footballer.
I thought it could handle small tasks like climbing up a small slope. But let's not beat around the bush. The car didn't have off-road tires and is a strict lifestyle product. Posers could care less if the car is useless for 7 day expeditions in the amazon forest.
Exactly. It is just made to look like it can do it, not actually do it - that would have been to much to ask, and no one is interested in having it do that.
Well, after seeing X6 is unable to go uphill on snow and plain grass..I have to wonder why BMW made this car :eusa_thin..Seriously,X6 is automobile for ppl who have loads of money to spent on something that´s neither coupe or capable 4x4..Its useless.. OK,I have admit it looks good inside out..but there good stuff ends IMO.
Well the X6 and X5 have almost the same setup, so I wonder if X5 is really capable compared to X6. But sadly the review is true. X6 is no offroader although it might be able to do some but with sacrifices.
It is neither "Sporty" nor suitable for "Activities" out of reach from tarmac roads. Left is "Vehicle". At least we can safely say that the X6 is a vehicle, right?
It´s not a bad review, I only dislike that everytime they can they use the Range Rover to Say "Hey, out british car can do this or can do that", wich is a bit boring imo. It´s true the X6 looks a bit pointless sometimes, it has never convinced me at all, but I´ve always been told than the current X5 is probably the less offroad capable german SUV so this review is no surprise at all. But again, I drive an ML and neve thought when we bought it we would need any offroad characteristic (only when it snows a little bit). I´m convinced whoever buys the X6, X5, Q7, ML, there are only looking for a command position and for a big luxury car. Oh, and we will always have the Lexus RX to go offroad .
Very important question: what tires were used. No car / truck can climb a snowy slope with summer tires on the wheels. :eusa_thin Attend local xDrive drive events when available: xDrive cars can do basic off-road trick. With proper tires, of course.
I think they hate him even more for constantly beating on iDrive since the day it was launched. But then again the people who take his rants seriously are the lower class and lower middle calls who cannot afford a brand new BMW anyways.
A SUV should always come equipped with proper M+S tyres. You would not give these: To someone looking like he or she was trying to do this: ...or would you ;-)
Well this is fichy, they used summer tired equipped X6 to show the supremace of the RR,use prper tires and then lets see again.I hate this about TG. IMO TT V8 X6 over the RR anyday.
Generally I don't take Jeremy Clarkson's word as the gospel, but he is right on this one. The BMW X6 is one of the stupidest cars money can buy.
99% of the owners are never going offroad with their X6. They buy X6's for other reasons. This test is just for fun.
Well the Range Rover seemed to managed grass climbing with ease using what appears to be standard tires equipped with 20 inch rims.
