This is a good reason for all you BMW fans, to NOT watch "Mr. & Mrs. Smith"

Oh well...German car fans in general, will hate this scene from "Mr. & Mrs. Smith".

Angelina Jolie sure still is hot as hell, and the movie itself ain't that bad.

However, this scene is very painful for BMW fans (including myself) to watch:

I know it was the baddies car, but, it's very sad to watch a very nice car, destroyed in an exaggerated and catastrophic way. :( :jpshakehe

I wouldn't mind if they destroyed three Cadillac Escalades instead...

I have never seen this movie, but it was pretty cool when with just two shots she destroyed two cars! I wonder why they are using old E39s though!

I will have to watch the full movie!

BTW, this isn't the best time for a couple to have an argument!

Good movie actually. Even better book

    E39 is such a classic.

Those ghetto looking Bimmers didn't deserve to breath anyway. Ha! Angelina looked in-credi-ble!!!

I love the 5 Series E39. It is the best looking saloon BMW ever made IMO.

The E39 manages to look good, even with that "Gheto Bodykit".

It is very sad (for me) to watch destroying an underrated classic car as the E39. If they were going to use BMWs for that scene, why they didn't ask for BMW, if they could use the current (ugly) X3? :eusa_thin

But then, I guess it would be much cheaper to use three used E39s instead of brand new X3. Even so, if they were going to use cheap used BMWs, why they didn't use the 3-series E36? It would be a lot cheaper and less painful to watch... not that I hate the E36, though.;)

That said, however, I still maintain that I wouldn't mind at all, to see a Cadillac Escalade or a Lincoln Navigator wrecked like that.

Oh yeah, Angelina Jolie is amazing as usual! (y) :eusa_clap

I don't think cost of the cars really comes into in, they are peanuts when compared to how much it cost them to product that scene!

BTW, I agree Angelina Jolie is hot, can see why Brad fell for her!

Wow, is one of the E39s an M5? The engine sounds spectacular. And I see quad-pipes.

    They definitely were not M5.

I think they were normal 528i from the early E39 vintage (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999), with some "mafia sentinel" sporty body kit, dual pipes, special exhaust (Hamann exhausts?), silver stripes, tinted windows and chromed wheels. Even the kidney grills are the older types that aren't as wide as the M5's were when they came out in 2000.

Notice very carefully, the tail lights are red/amber instead of the red/white from the M5. They don't have M side view mirrors, neither the M5 badges. Not to mention they don't have the subtle rear spoiler charateristic from the M5 E39. The headlights in front look like pre-2001 with orange turn signals. Also noticed that the window trim was chrome whereas M5s are black.

Hollywood is famous for souping-up ordinary blandmobiles with custom paint, loads of accessories just for the sheer on screen effect. Sometimes, they do extreme thing, such as re-boding an entire car, like they did in 1986 "Ferris Bueller's day off!". They used a real Ferrari for a few scenes and a fiberglass replica based on an MG-B Roadster for the action scenes, including the tragic end when Cameron throw the car out of the building.

These BMWs were probably salvage vehicles. Anything to save $$$$$ for a movie production. Salvage vehicles or not, they still look great and my heart kind of hurt when they trashed all three. BTW: They were early 6-cylinder 5-Series dressed-up to look like M5s. It would be a sin to smash up real M5s. But then again, it was a sin when they blew-up that black 7-Series E38 in "The Transporter". Not to mention the four 750il E38 destroyed during the making of "007 Tomorrow Never Dies".

I hate how fake Hollywood is!

I saw my first E60 M5 in the metal today. Not a bad looking car.
