    and......leaks, photos, the new concept?
  4. The Mini Hatch is launching here next week. I'm not fan of the Mini brand as they've grown too much. Bloated imo.

That growth was inevitable, the car had to get bigger to fit the average size of the people in it's biggest market (who are also getting bigger) and to keep pace with the latest safety regulations, this was the reason for the increased frontal overhang.

Closing down... But Opening again soon in new premises.

The final orders for the R55 MINI Clubman are being taken. Clearing the lines for the all-new MINI Clubman launching in 2015. You would be surprised how close the Concept is to the final production car whilst it is essentially F56 there are subtle changes in the details but recognisable from the Concept.
Everything stays the same -outline , proportions and even the low roof-line.

A closer to reality Render once we include the production elements but this is what you will get.

Of course if you need practicality sooner rather than later then you will get the added bonus of the 5dr MINI. Just over a month from the official launch.

Yes its a vision for what we are thinking about what to do with the replacements for the MINI coupe and roadster.
They are no longer going to be cut down MINIs but with a specific singular form. Think of them as budget Boxster/Cayman in the Miata/MX-5 segment but with a very british sports car accent.

I wouldn't replace them, they were horrible things and not really MINI enough for me. I'd think a better bet would be a three box saloon.

Is BMW doing a new concept too? Or is the MINI the only one?

Its a Vision... But it does conform to some of the creative ideas that are in motion in regards to a singular replacement for the MINI Coupe & Roadster using a design language that is completely individual but very brand familiar.

There is ongoing work on the Coupe/Roadster replacements using MINI F56 Mechanicals and drivetrain - the whole UKL structure basically but not using the body of a MINI as last time. We will see some elements of CFRP used not only in detailing but also underneath.
The replacement Coupe and Roadster will bring more beauty and tradition to offer something truly individual and evoke the appearance of classic British road cars.

Although perceived as a vision there are key elements that virtually show ideas that are work-in-progress.
Especially the proportions embodying classic british sports car design which was the main appeal to the BMW board of management to re-introduce that classic , design-led , fun , open air sporty feeling and a good philosophy for its "British" brand MINI.

The new interpretation has also been conceived as a Coupe as well. But relates to the current MINI with its "reverse cap" roof. The new twins will of course feature BMW twins as BMW plan a Z1 Roadster and Z2 Coupe although they will be clothed in modern post-futuristic progressive clothes heavily influenced by The BMW Vision ConnectDrive concept car.

The current MINI Coupe and Roadster are niche models so it is easy to forget they were not expected to sell in high numbers as a volume MINI model in which the media occasionally writes off as sales failures.
However the cars between them have sold around 20,000 units a piece so it has its owners and customers who like the sporting proportions. Of course moving forward the new F56 is in much better position to offer customers more features and technology than the outgoing Coupe/Roadster.

BMW put forward a brief to capture a concept that is familiar but can be much, much more competitive in the segment. The new car can be perceived as a budget Porsche Boxster/Cayman but in the Miata/ MX-5 segment. Yet still be a MINI and a re-interpretation of traditional British sports car to offer customers of all ages a very exciting and different sports car concept.

The problem with the Mini is the same Porsche face with trying to model every car it products on the looks of the 911, it works but in varying degree and the same is true for the Mini. The least successful looking of the numerous variations of the Mini are the Countryman and the Coupe, the rest look fine but it's the plain vanilla Mini which will always look best to my eyes.

Its not the only new MINI coming... The Rocketman is coming back in 3dr and 5dr form.

There will be more done to distinguish each MINI. The Clubman has some specific detail adjustments because of the increase of width but recognisable as the MINI design language.
But Clubman in production form is 95% the concept. image.

That's good to know, the Rocketman is the only modern MINI which actually looked interesting, not antithetical to the name it carries like all the other recent variations.

It has been years since MINI stopped being about that philosophy and progressed successfully to where it is now where the focus is purely on the brand. A victim of its own success.

Is the thinking with Rocketman still linked to using a Toyota platform?
