Next Batman film to swoop into theaters in 2012 - Next Batman film to swoop into theaters in 2012 (AP) - Yahoo! Movies :eusa_clap :eusa_clap Well it's two years, but it's worth the wait.
oh boy oh boy oh boy! I'm hoping for the Riddler and Talia al Ghul in the next one. Or maybe the Mad Hatter. Cannot wait to See Inception...this and Iron Man 2 are the only movies this summer I'm really looking forward to seeing. Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors.
don't get me wrong, I like Depp and all, but I would like to see Hugh Laurie play it. He's got that genius craziness with his role on House. I'd feel that Depp would overstep Bale. Heath Ledger wasn't a big movie star, relatively speaking, but he made that role his own. I think a guy like Laurie can do just that without having to attract the unnecessary hoopla that Depp would bring. And if not Laurie, maybe another Nolan alum, like Guy Pearce. Also Talia al Ghul would be awesome as it'd provide a nice arc from Batman Begins. Angelina Jolie would be the obvious choice, but like Depp, she'd bring too much of her offstage baggage. Maybe Natalie Portman? And if not Talia, then definitely Catwoman. Oh, I cannot wait!!!! :eusa_danc
I hope the movie will not disappoint like The Dark Knight; they're trying to make Batman a serious movie or something (as if a guy in a batsuit can be taken seriously) and they're failing big time.
Daniel Day-Lewis as the Riddler would be great! Except for some plot-point ambiguities, I thought that The Dark Knight and Batman Begins were very well done. And if the box office numbers and critical reviews are any indications, then it's not a failure at all. This is a movie after all, you're supposed to leave a bit of realism behind when you enter the theater. Besides, Nolan's version is the most realistic interpretation of Batman I've seen on screen whereas Burton's was more gothic fantasy (which I liked as a kid and an adult) and Schumacher's was Vegas garish garbage (which I found revolting as a teen and an adult). But to each, his own. What didn't appeal to you?
Nah see, I'm not a Hugh Laurie fan and I think that House is one of the most dumbest shows on TV right now. LOL As for the Heath and Depp argument, well in the Dr. Pernasus flick, Depp did take that part of Heath. So he is a natural step in for that kind of ludicrousness. Hugh is a little too clinical for the way Riddler is. If there is anyone else I think who can pull the riddler off it would be Jake Gyllenhaal. If you've seen Donnie Darko, you might know what I'm talking about. But too bad he is in the Prince of Persia flick, so he might be "too big" to play that part now.
Admittedly, the last couple of season's of House have been subpar, especially since he stopped being a pill-popper. I don't see Laurie as a "clinical" guy at all, in fact, he's better known as a comic actor than a dramatic actor. But in a way, he's seen as meticulous. I can see the Riddler as an obsessive. Also I see the Riddler as an older guy in his 40's, not a young guy. Depp still looks relatively young, but he can pull it off. Terry Gilliam's flicks tend to be more art-house and initimate, so Depp in that atmosphere can work. But Depp in a summer movie brings too much hype...so much hype that he would overshadow the other characters. Heath Ledger, while a great actor, wasn't at the caliber of Depp. People knew he was good, but until they say his now-iconic Joker on the screen, they weren't figuratively blown away. Having not seen Donnie Darko, a movie I've been meaning to see for quite a long time but keep forgetting (thanks for the reminder), i can't attest whether Jake Gyllenhaal can pull off a devious genius. But as Shonguiz said, as long as it has Nolan helming it and Bale donning the cape and cowl and Oldman as the commissioner, and as long as it's dark and brooding, it's going to be G-O-O-D. BTW, all this comic-book movie talk makes me feel like the Comic-Book Guy from the Simpsons.
As long as the key people are there with a great story line, it will be a classic. Morgan Freeman has said a while ago that he know Nolan wanted Catwoman for 3. I have to find the article though. Lol...Well at least we'll go out with a great movie! You are the first person on earth that I have ever heard that said that movie was a disappointment. It was the best movie I have ever seen.
Jonny Depp is too much of a threat to Bale and could potentially upstage him. Nolan has done an impeccable job progressing the Batman franchise and so is his choice of cast. For the next film, he's probably continue to cast "second tier" A-list stars i.e phenomenal actors who are more substance then they are glitz. I can picture James Mcavoy playing Robin. He's one of my favorite actors and truly captivated me in the Last King of Scottland and Atonement. He's one hell of an actor.
See, all this talk about upstaging Bale is in the wrong spirit. The bad guy should always upstage Bale. That's exactly how Bale wants it too. I remember an interview where someone asked him about all the hype regarding Heath/Joker (after his death) and how does that make Bale feel. And his feeling was basically that it's good because the "bad guy" is supposed to be this larger than life person, because Batman is the guy who just does what no-one else can. Which is truth, because the bad-guy gets one shot in one movie, while Bale will still be in the next one. Thats why a person like Depp would definitely bring the "larger than life" thing to the screen while we get to watch Batman with his flaws being exposed. Oh and on the record, I've been a fan of Heath since "10 things I hate about you" and "A Knights Tale." LOL As for Donnie Darko and Jake. Here is a pic. Oh HELL NO!! As much as I like James, I'm just happy that Nolan and Bale agreed that they are NOT going to have Robin as a character. That would just ruin the franchise, honestly.
Well played, Centurion, well played. I like Nolan's Batman as a lone wolf, he doesn't need another wolf in his pack. (A The Hangover reference ) Alright, Donnie Darko will be my next rental! you're right, Bale wants someone to one up him so he can ante up his own game. But Depp's too glamorous and it's a given he can do eccentric. I agree with Centurion, a "second-tier A-list" would be great because you don't know what to expect. Again, don't get me wrong, I like Depp, it's just he's in EVERYTHING! I want to him in a movie where he's NOT in make-up (which reminds me, I need to see Public Enemies)
Ha ha ha...dude, I when I was reading that I was thinking "Have you SEEN Public Enemies?" LOL, but you answered my question before it got answered. Check out the movie, Bale/Depp go VERY well together.
