Spotted this car today. Unique head light and brake light clusters compared to standard X6M model. The car I saw had a standard X6M hood.....no used parts bin X6 Hybrid hood. I could not get a shot given the place I saw the car. The car had a glorious exhaust note....very different from the current X6M. Not a deep V8 growl....a higher pitch almost V10/ V12 sound.Very high revving sound.Working on pic's.Thanks. PalBay

Yes. what the M3 CRT show and this X6 is the future of M's expansion. Begin with launching the standard car and then a more enthusiast option further down the line.
CRT Carbon Racing Technology will be our "CSL" brand for Sedans and SAV's. And CSL will be for Coupe's. A more track orientated option could use the current GTS terminology. CRT and CSL will showcase the progress CFRP takes as it becomes more cost effective for use.

An M6 CSL could become a reality this time . but it all depends on whether there is a suitable business case for the car. Regarding CFRP each car is a jigsaw and what becomes more cost effective becomes the next piece to be accomodated on the car , which means we could see the first stand alone M car since the M1 become a reality because it will become feasible to build it to our own specification.

One car that will become part of the original programme is the M2 - the replacement for today's 1M Coupe. And like the car today M2 will also be about accessibility so the specifcation will not differ from the E82 - it will be several pounds lighter thanks to a four cylinder engine, but power will be about the same as today's car.
If it is not broke then don't fix it..right? But with the gap between the M3 and M2 becoming more wider - then expect something to progress with the M2 in between , especially since there will be more time to do so.

What Is This Car-X6M LCI or CFRP Super X6 M??

Need some help w/ this one.Is this the standard X6 M Facelift or the CFRP "Super" X6 M.This is the car I saw a few days ago and the exhaust note is wonderful. The front is standard/current X6 M save the black tape around the headlight clusters. One very very big difference is the black lettering below the M gills on the front quarter-panels.It appears to spell "FIT" with a heavy blackline under the word. I've never seen anything like this on any other prototype I've viewed. Could this be the new logo for the lightweight "X" branding going forward.I don't have a clue.Suggestions welcomed.Thanks. I think the FIT part is just put there because they're testing something, it's probably not something we will see back on the car.

And this car is a facelift testing, doesn't look like it's a CRT to me... Maybe it's the new TU engine you're hearing though??

The X6 M facelift is gonna be an easy one. Just change the internal components of both the head and rear lights.

Given the X6's success and the fact that the competition will have rival offerings soon, hell even Maserati are going to build a rival just showcases the niche that BMW began (SAV Coupe) turned out to be the same success Benz started with the CLS "4-door-coupe.

The confidence from rival manufacturers shows because they want a piece of the cake....China 670 000 millionaires and 120 billionaires makes the cake slightly larger for niche's these days, I think!?

I think the true inventor of the SAC segment was Infinity, which started designing SUVs with small and slim glasshouse before no one else did. I remember the first time I saw an Infinity IRL I was pleasantly surprised.

Appreciate the bounce back.Had I viewed lettering on other test cars I would agree w/ your thoughts. However, in 8 yrs of looking at BMW test mules....I've never seen ANY writing/lettering at all (other than black tape, swirly camo and serial numbers- pic enclosed) on test mules. The fact that I've never seen writing/lettering before....makes me think it has some meaning/relevance to whats going on with the development of the car. I hope to see other X6 M LCI's and see if they have similar lettering. Thanks. PalBay

Finally saw this car today. It has the X6 LCI LED Headlight/Rear Brake light redo and all the traditional "M" branding,i.e "M" front fender gills and quad exhaust. Does have the Power Dome hood minus all the cutouts seen on this test mule on the Ring. The Power dome hood seems to be a popular item on the "X" cars these days (X6 M 50d). The front fascia/Air Intakes looked more like the BMW Performance Parts front end (see attached pic's). Sorry no pic's.It was pouring rain and I could barely crack the window to get a quick glimpse. It's out now and I'll get some shots. Thanks. PalBay

Thanks for the info, Palbay. Some of these changes may be coming to X5M as well, since they have the same front.

Do they really have the same front?
  14. klier Member

    Yes identical.

The part #s for hood, kidney grille, bumper and associated parts are exact same for both the X6M and X5M.
