An impressive - albeit slightly disappointing - 'Ring time. I was hoping for a better showing.

Same, but Ferrari rarely carry out their development work at the ring. This time makes the GTR and the SLS looks impressive.

2nd that. It's only 2 seconds faster than the heavier and (in the straightline) slower SLS AMG.
The HHR time isn't impressive as well. For me. I was expecting a sub-1.10 min-time.

I was expecting 7:25 min. It means 911 GT3 RS is faster than 458 Italia. It is disappointing that Ferrari is no more the fastest car. Ferrari has the same problem as BMW M, they are caught up by the concurrence. FI is to way to get the lead back.
The fact being the 458 Italia is not so fast, despiteall its F1 technology, the Ferrari should now get a 6 speed manual gearboxe, no good track times, so at least fun shifting manually till redline.

I just can't believe it. 458 Italia (7:38 min) is only 2 sec faster than M3 GTS (7:40 min).

I hope the MP4-12C will not disappoint, and run the N-Ring in 7:20-7:15 min. The McLaren MP4-12C has everything to be faster than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Whoa this makes the SLS GTR and Scuderia look good..
    I was expecting more..
Now i would deffo take the Scud over this..:)

    Big up to nissan ;)

This only confirms Quattroruote track test.

458 Italia is as fast as 430 Scuderia, with 458 using normal tires, Scud using sport tires. Which is quite impressive. (y)

With sport tires, results would be probably as follows :

    Nordschleife - 7:30

    Hockenheim - 1:09,0

Why don´t Ferrari supply test cars with sport tires remains the question. Leaving some room for performance improvement for "458 Scuderia" ?

not that impressive, but at least it matched the zr1 and gtr times by sportauto

Yea I expected a better ring time, but I always give Ferrrai lot of leeway there since they never do any development work on the ring and it is unlike normal race tracks. But then again Hockenhein time is not exactly mind boggling either.

EDIT: oops just realized it is not on R tires like the GT2, so yea, I guess that changes everything.
  10. DeDe Contributing Member

That's true, but I still feel a bit disappointed, because it's still not (much) faster than the SLS AMG - which was tested on normal sport-tires as well (Conti SportContact5)...
  11. emve Well-Known Member

    I agree.

Looking forward to other track tests of 458. I respect Sport Auto results, but they seem to like german cars a bit more than the others. Some results are strange - GT3 with cup tires fastest in wet handling (I would expect awd car with normal tires to occupy this spot) etc.

DeDe, are you going to get this issue ?
  12. DeDe Contributing Member

(Without any offense) I think this is just a theory created by non-german-car-fans. There's no evidence for it. And no reasons for Sport Auto to do these cheatings. IMO of course.

997.2 GT3 wears new typ of Cup tires with better wet-grip. (y)

Not in the next weeks. Sadly. But I hope I'll be able to buy and scan it.

Did the test car burn itself to the ground at the end of the test? :)

These are still impressive times, but it does show what an achievement the GTR was when you consider just how much heavier it is.
  16. Human Persue Your Dreams

And what an achievement the GTR still is!;)

I still can't believe the figures the 458 produces. It was hard to imagine how it could be BETTER than an F430 and so similar to the scuderia. Also, not to mention the way the 458 looks :icondrool
  18. footie Banned

The F430 is one hell of a quick and exciting car on the road but, and you can shot me for saying this but on the track I found the F430 to be very average, compared to cars like the GT3 and Lotus Exige. May be the hype of it being a Ferrari meant I was expecting more but it never lived up to the dream in the same way as many others do.
