VW Scirocco: New Info Out

Volkswagen’s Scirocco will only come with force-fed measures. VW is working around the clock to prepare the car for its first public appearance at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show. From there it will do the rounds including to shows like Paris in September and Auto Africa in Johannesburg this October. The two turbo engines to play hero in the lightweight sports car are the 1.4-litre TSI of 122 bhp/ 91kW and a TDI choice. Small turbo engines are currently the most sensible to use as they are light, yet powerful and somewhat economical compared to the bigger powerblocks.

Seven-speed DSG transmission is the logical cog to pick, because it allows for super quick changes in both automatic and semi-automatic. During heavy traffic instances it’s smooth, yet still responsive when situations change.

Expect some body-hugging sport seats, not dissimilar to the ones offered in the RS 4, RS 6 and S3, but more compact. A panoramic roof is an option for those akin to checking out the skies while they drive at 200km/h. ESP will be standard so there’s very little to fear at that level.

Volkswagen Launches Scirocco Minisite

Just as it did with the Passat CC back in December 2007, Volkswagen has launched a minisite dedicated to its forthcoming Scirocco Coupe. The images featured on the site don’t really reveal anything on the Golf based coupe apart from the fact that it will be equipped with the VW Group’s 2.0 TFSI petrol engine –probably with 200 HP.

However, the fact that the German carmaker took the decision to launch the minisite now leads us to believe that we’re probably going to see the compact coupe debuting in the Geneva Motor Show next month. As for sales, we’ve been informed by VW insiders that the Scirocco will be introduced into the European market in September

Finally! I was acutally getting sick and tired of all the spyshots. Teasers look good and at least we know that it will be rocking the same tail lights as the concept. With Audi/VW's amazing engine line up this should be one hell of a car, like a cheaper version of the 1er coupe. I will be very pleased if the production car has four individual seats.

I am really really very interested in that car. The Iroc looks gorgeous, and the real deal will be almost the same...

The price won't be too high...

My only concern is the interior, I know it will have roughly the Eos one, not bad but I hope some improvements, some sporty elements.

I think this car has good chances to become mine in some years.

From the moment we learned about Volkswagen’s new Scirocco minisite (see here) our first thought was that the German carmaker was planning a Geneva Motor Show debut for the production version of the IROC concept. Earlier today, one of readers, John N. pointed out that the compact coupe was on the Geneva Motor Show's official premiere list. However, just to be on the safe side, we contacted one of our Volkswagen sources who confirmed the news; the Scirocco Coupe will definitely make its debut in Switzerland.
