7:46 and the kkh time are beastly! Wow. The slower 0-200 time is because of atmospheric differences and the body kit/wings?

CLK 63 Black Series did 7:45 with Berndt Schneider behind the wheel! This car is amazing

Democracy, said Winston Churchill, is the worst form of government...except for all the others. You might say the same of the Nürburging. Not the track itself, but the ultimate bragging rights that have emerged from comparing lap times on it. Because while there are countless factors that can affect a car's lap time over such a long circuit, it's still one of the best ways to measure a car's overall performance.

And so the comparisons carry on, especially for German cars that call the Nordschleife their backyard. This time we're looking at the latest slice of awesome wearing the Three Pointed Star, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series coupe, which has reportedly posted a 7:46 lap time at the hands of local publication Sport Auto.

Breaking the eight-minute barrier is an achievement unto itself – one which the standard C63 AMG coupe just barely missed with an 8:01 – but stands up better to comparison: In the same group test, the new Porsche 911 Carrera S barely edged it out at 7:44, while the BMW M3 GTS hit it in 7:48, placing the Black Series right in the middle of the two.

Of course, another test under different conditions, with different drivers on a different day would surely come away with different results. But in an imperfect world, these are as close as we'll get to perfect figures.

Very impressive... AMG are really upping their game. The new Black now has real track credentials.

It´s nice to see a track oriented version, and a more comfortable one for those who don´r care one bit about this things, as myself.

Amazingly good looking in that yellow color BTW.

I never seen that coming.... a C-class AMG beating the M3GTS even if it was the Black Series.

Laptime in the wet 5 seconds slower than M3 GTS, what's the reason behind that?

Yes, they were optimized for dry surfaces. Also oversteer is dominant, even with the ESP ON.

Ok , so the tyres are very good in the dry. How good is this tyre compare the Pirelli P Zero Corsa ?

Tire tread design and depth will surely affect wet lap times, but so will other factors: weight (BS is 200kg heavier than the GTS), camber (BS runs a pretty aggressive setup there; not sure what the GTS ran), spring rates (softer is better), tire pressures (some mfrs like Toyo recommend increasing tire pressures in the wet to reduce the contact patch and reduce risk of hydroplaning, but this seems very dependent on tire construction). Perhaps all of these combined will account for more than the differences between the C63 BS's tires and those on the M3 GTS.
Still, an overall great result for the Black Series and one that was not too surprising to me. The old CLK Black Series was also very fast relative to the M3 on Cups.
