1st place: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Performance Package (facelift) AMG made it: the facelifted C63 is fast on the track, sounds great and it's ideal for everyday use. They also mentioned that the new wet clutch-MCT works faster than the previous 7G-Tronic - they got 4,2 s 0-100 km/h in Mode S+ (Race Start is not for perfect times, only for the show). The new C63 is faster around the track as well: on the same tyres it's 0,3 s per lap faster than the old C63 PP - thanks to the quicker gearbox and better suspension. 2nd place: BMW M3 CRT In terms of performance the M3 CRT is the clear winner. The seatposition, the paddles on the steering wheel and the sound - all for the highest-performance. 1,7 s advantage per lap compared to the M3 DKG Competition Package. 3rd place: Lexus IS-F (facelift) No more nervous steering feel, no more body roll in corners - thanks to the new dampers. The fresh IS-F is 1,3 seconds faster than the old one. :t-cheers:
As a past M3 owner I say without a doubt the M3 CRT is the star here and it just shows weight is where the REAL gains are made it terms of real world performance not extra power.
Oops, let me take that back. Didn't see that it's a CRT version. Jeez, that thing costs 50 grand more than C63 and only 67 of them are made.
Amazing how technology has developed over time. Despite the particular models presented, I can't help that the C63 despite carrying a 300kg weight penalty, with skinnier tyres, and a reluctant auto transmission is just under a second slower that the all-out focussed M3 CRT. I know price is never a factor, but the price gap is astonishing as well. Really does put things into perspective. Curious as to why the PS2's got a nod on the CRT when the stock M3 gets Sport Cup tyres as standard? Despite being an MB fan through and through, you have to appreciate AMG's advancement. (He said whilst proudly owning an E90!).
Unfortunately money spent very seldom equals huge improvement in performance, but how it actually feel compared to before quite often makes up the shortfall.
I know that. It's just that test doesn't look meaningfull to me when they comparing cars with 50 grand price gap. Put black series there and it'll be worth reading. Yeah, and throw that ugly lexus away
I will say the same about the CRT considering that the C has a 1900cc and 37hp advantage. Besides that, 1sec in a track is not a short distance. Probably a 4 cars lenght in real life. I hope the next M3 weight's the same than the CRT, about 1560kg.
I would like to see a video from the lap. They speak about the engine noise in the M3 like its wonderful and the best.
I would say its a done deal if it's to remain competitive with the next RS4/5 which if rumors are true Audi are looking to drop the B9 A4 weight by as much as 150-200kg so a drop of 75-100kg do be on the cards for the M3.
