BMW have some quick diesels :)

    What's Diesel?

    :D

That diesel line-up is without a doubt the best in the whole business.
I'll take the Alpina, but with regular BMW M pack bodykit and rims.

Interesting: the price gap between 530d and 535d is reasonable, but the gap between 535d and 550d is huge!!

That comparison test makes a laughing stock out of the M550d.......hugely expensive with little extra performance.

On this occasion M-P in M-Performance definitely stands for making More Porfit. ;)

The heaviest yet the fastest for me :)
M550d is the PERFECT business jet and there's nothing better (y)

But 550d comes with AWD and M package, tripple turbo included in the base price. Two pricey extra options.

All things which while expensive generally make a dramatic difference to the performance.....usually.

535d for me, much cheaper to buy and run; and the aceleration difference isn't that big.

    Same here, 535d.

It's making me wonder whether Audi's S6d will be as equally expensive whilst not offering any measurable performance advantage.

Take your Audi talk elsewhere to the appropriate section.

The 4wd Diesel M5 for me please! That thing is just perfect to satisfy your both, good & bad sides!

The M550d is 10k more expensive than it should be. The F10 is so heavy, how much aluminium does it have?
  15. Deckhook Well-Known Member

^ It's the price that is this car's biggest failing in my opinion. Extra performance and uniqueness are both welcome but not at this price.

    535d.

BMW's aren't about gluttonous powertrains, power, and weight to me. I feel it's the best all around balance and from what I've heard the 535i gasser gives a better holistic experience over the boat heavy, giant TT engine front heavy 550i.
  17. klier Member

^^^ 550d you mean? Either way, the front is as heavy as the rear..... Heavy, but pretty much equally so....

    True, true!

I was actually referring to the gasser versions, as some "Mag articles" have said that the 535i is a better rounded balance than the 550i. So I'm assuming the same might go for the Diesels. I haven't driven a V8 version (so my tune could really change if/when I do), but the added 400 or so lbs seems to go a long way in hampering some "sprightliness" of the car. I just love the idea of the "35" motor, I6 so it's a true to form BMW, a Turbo added to give you some low end aggressive torque that was lost on many of the N/A I6's from before, and great gas mileage. Only issue with it via the F10 is the choppiness and delayed gas pedal feel at low-city speeds, though I don't know if that's motor related or most likely techno related.
