Raise the Volume. At this years Frankfurt IAA. BMW are planning to show a BMW M6 CSL Concept Car . This will give a very good indication of how BMW are planning their M (CSL) cars to stand out from the road going versions. Think of it as a modern interpretation of such as the BMW 3.5 CSL especially as it evolutionised over the years in which the BMW E9 coupe is in fact a precursor to today's current 6er Coupe range. Although the M6 uses as standard a Carbon Fibre roof. The plans for CSL cars are to use more weight reducing Carbon Fibre internally and externally. Lightweight glass and more enhanced aerodynamics with sufficient increased power the V10 is expected to go up to 550 PS. This will make the BMW M6 CSL become more hardcore and raw with earth shattering enhancements in speed, handling and will sound louder than the standard road cars - Think direct competition with the M6 CSL against the Porsche 997 GT3/RS and Aston Martin DBS. The M6 CSL Concept car will also showcase the introduction of the ZSG Gearbox. Visually the M6 will differ from it's standard car by offering new M cues as seen on the recent BMW M3 Concept Car. Causing much mystery is the appearance of a bulge on the bonnet of some M6 photographs, this will be supplemented with a pair of vents on each side . The front bumper changes to a unupturned shape similar to todays car and the upcoming BMW M3 with a curved bottom ledge - carbon Fibre aerodynamic spoilers sit below the brake cooling vents . On the side of the wings the M6 CSL will receive air vents similar to the M3 , The wheel design will be the same design as today's standard car but the spokes will be of Multi-Spoke design. at the rear there is a slightly larger vent underneath the licence plate and the standard mirrors are replaced by the same design as the new M3's aerodynamic mirrors. Whilst the BMW M3 and BMW M6 will more than definetely be greenlighted to get a CSL model. BMW are deciding on offering a CSL model of the Z4M Coupe and the upcoming BMW 1er Coupe. Whilst seen as a Concept Car. BMW will use the M6 CSL as a test bed for new lightweight technologies and will use reaction to determine production reality. With all this requiring serious legislation for the North American market. Currently as of now BMW do not intend to offer these models in the USA.
great info....the part that I dont like though is that it wont be comming to the US:t-banghea . I do like the idea of the Z4M CSL, now that would be one hell of a track car, since it already starts out as a light car.
SWEET!!! So finally we get to see the new generation of CSL cars and the new generation of transmissions....ZSG!!! Must be an awesome time to work for BMW right now...isn't it Scott?
Many Good questions... I hope I give satisfactory answers. Officially for now it is a Concept Car so until production approval is granted (in the Autumn) After IAA . We should see the prototypes. The ZSG will make it's serial production debut in the BMW M3. Because the technology will be shown in Frankfurt for the first time it will be showcased in the M6 CSL. Frankfurt 2007 marks the fourth anniversary when in September 2003 The first BMW 6er Coupe drove onto the stage in the BMW Pavillion. The LCI of the BMW 6er Coupe and Cabrio will make it's world debut in Frankfurt. Illustrating the latest but minimal changes the spotlight will be on the M6 CSL and the first diesel engined 6er Coupe. Although it is (counting serial production) four years old but still looks modern , futuristic and dynamic. It has aged well... The new BMW M3 also makes it's World debut @ Frankfurt in production guise. It is far too early to see the M3 CSL as BMW want to have all focus on the production car. Look at the timeframe concerning the M6 CSL and you can see it is the right time. IAA will be Coupe heaven with the introduction of the BMW M3 Coupe , BMW 1er Coupe , BMW 6er Coupe and Cabrio LCI , BMW M6 CSL Concept Car plus two more world debuts - One being another Concept car.:eusa_thin
And i really doubt BMW really want it because this means Huge huge investment. An M3 CSL is much more credible candidate.
Like I said earlier: my sources told me 6 would be the star of IAA. Meaning what? 6er LCI + M6 CSL only, or X6 Concept as well? :t-hands:
Well if GM can come up with something like the Z06, why can't BMW ?! :t-hands: :eusa_thin But I agree it should be an M3 CSL.
how are they getting the extra 50hp? Are they just doing a basic cpu and intake change or are they going to give this thing an extra half litre of displacement?
Let me clear something: Don't think a second that i am doubting about the competence of BMW's engineers, they are on top of their art. All what i am saying is: Like all other bimmers, the 6 has some some serious sporty skills but it's still a heavy GT while the 911 is made from the begining to be a real sport car ( i know, all things are relative but the 911 remains sportier than the 6) and so to make this heavy GT competing aigainst the most hardcore version of the 911, BMW will have to invest heavily in lightweight materials ( 1395 kg vs 1710 KG), chassis optimization etc... and why BMW would do it ? The 6 CSL wil be probably a limited version, so they will loose money and it has been stated clearly that one of the top actual priority is Profit so... Brand perception ? BMW has already a diamond reputation, and if they absolutely want to offer a comptitor to GT3, they can focuse on the M3 because the job woul be easier.
No need to do it, they already pulled out about 590 hp (9000 rpm in place of 8250 rpm) without any problem. They didn't creat an all new engine to use it for one single generation, THE MOTORSPORT V10 has an enourmous potential.
Well just throwing more revs in the mix wont make that extra 50hp all that usefull. Increasing the borh isnt as big of deal as you might think and making the car limited production means that it could be hand done-no need to implement it into the production line.
