    Ummmm:t-crazy2:
wow at least they are close...
The prices are high, you can get a 2000 or newer 911 turbo for around $30K on ebay right now.

These cars are so different... I am not sure what I would go with.

The M5 without a doubt. That car is stunning to look at and fabulous to drive. If you take care of it correctly, it will last a VERY long time.

What a wacky poll...lol. I absolutely can't stand the 996 911, it was a cheap, retired Toyota executives influenced car. Hate it.

Love the Chrysler 300 in top form, SRT-8....but the V8 M5 is legendary....so it gets my vote.

My philosophy for this pole was obviously so compare the same performance characteristics, weight and price of two sedans. So I wanted to make the M5 have a chance so I picked an older one to compete with the up to date new Chrysler in price. Since everything else is pretty much identical I wanted to throw in the best of the best, a 911, the most basic one to not crush all these guys in votes and performance (so only the most basic, older version of a 911 works, when looking to be at same level of performance) maybe after all these years even in price. So yeah I ended up picking the most basic 911 and went back a while but maybe to much. So there you have it there is a reason for my madness and every human action is justifiable and fair only when you get a chance to hear both sides of the story. This comparison is not very fair I guess since the M5 is crushing it, like I kind of thought. (y)

    m5 all the way ..

to me, the most beautiful bmw ever!

Yep!! Definitely the BMW M5!! Absolutely stunning car and my favourite 5-series of all time!! Looks absolutely fabulous + the stunning V8 sound!!

    My thoughts exactly.

    I absolutely adore the 911.
The 996 is no real 911 for me, however. It looks ugly (for a 911), has a quite poor finish... is not super-reliable... Noise is less gogeous than it should... The only 911 I don't like at all.

The 300C is very nice, but Chrysler is truggling right now so I wouldn't buy any of their cars.

And the M5 is a work of art. Needs almost as much oil as gas, which is expensive, but it(s a gorgeous machine. it gets my vote.

Had oit been a 911 from the 993 generation, I'd have picked it.

The M5. It is one big middle finger to conventions.

The E39 M5 is one of the greatest cars I've ever driven. So it gets my vote too.

The 911 Carrera suffers from mid-nineties bad taste that affected so many cars' styling at the time. Any suppositions made by coolraoul about the 996's reliability is pure conjecture and not backed up by empirical evidence. :D ;)
So, whilst it's not the most desirable car here it certainly is the best one to drive.

Still went for the mighty M5 tho'...

    M5!

    It's simply beautiful:)

I know someone who has a 911 2.4s, and is intending to trade-in his 993 for a 996 GT3. He's regularly attending Porsche racetrack events.

He regularly sees blown motors on the track, exclusively on 996 Carrera and early 997 models (not on GT3s). Is that good as an empirical evidence Martin? :)

The reliability of the 911 has dramatically fallen since the ugly 996. And a new motor is dead-expensive on these cars.

The 996 and 997 are not build for the racetrack any more, and even on the road they're far from the old bullet-proof air-cooled motors, this is fact.

Do I have to write what I've voted for? You all know, don't you? :D

    Very unfair guys

the BMW M5 is a magnificient piece of engineering.
But has anyone driven the 996? the worst 911 is still better than the M5. The most hated Porsche by the press, but spend a significant amount of time in one and then come back and tell me it's crap. It's very different from the 993, but still an amazing car form handling as well as engine noise and everything. Still a true sports car. it takes my vote.
Not that it's important in the strict sense, but you only find 10 yr old M5s around kebab stands these days as well.
