I saw my first M5 today. A greyish color.
Stealth factor is high but the car is ridiculous beautiful. I was looking at the rear and then bending down to see the tyres. Then I couldn't stop smiling and laugh a little because the width of those tyres are wide. Looks so ridiculous on a 5-series. I want one badly. The downside I can think of is the price, cost almost like a house in Sweden, its insane but in a positive way ;)

Merc and Saayaf, I'm so jelous of you guys. How can someone not love that car.

Not a GT but a compact.

It is clear where they had their insiration from. While they had been at it for several years somebody finally put an end to this cut & shut madness.

The brand new BMW M5 hot hatch.

Hey I'd take that trashed M5 Hot Hatch over the new 1er...

What are BMW apps. Facebook voice integration?

Stop giving BMW ideas. I have no clue who gave them the 'Lets play fake engine noises through the stereo' idea.

Guys, if BMW puts fake engine sounds through the speakers because the car doesn't make good enough sounds to be heard inside on its own, then it's the cool thing to do.... don't you know that?
  9. Betty Swollocks Well-Known Member

I must admit, I do find it a bit silly. It's one thing if the engine is a bit "quiet". OK, fair enough, that's the problem with turbos but at least it still seems a good engine. To actually put the sound through the stereo is embarrassing. A lot of non-centric BMW forums I've been on, the majority find it silly too.

I think it's pretty silly to have to do so, as well. Especially on a beast like an M5. Seems like a "cheap fix" for not being able to properly distribute pure, raw sound into the cabin, without sacrificing the cabins serenity when it wants to be serene. After all, the F10 M5 isn't the first car to attempt to have both loud and quiet capabilities (it's been successfully done many times before).

its not engine that is quiet, its isolation of the sound that is so good (at least that is what bmw marketing is saying). stuff you hear from the speakers is exactly same noise as engine is delivering.
it is silly tho. arent there cars that enables you to somewhat open engine noise into the cabin? and close it if its too loud for you?

I mean, the F10 isn't the quietest car in the world, I doubt it's as quiet as an S-Class, or E-Class for that matter (I know the regular E-Class seems quieter than the regular 5-Series, but it seems AMG made it so a lot more engine/exhaust roar would louden up the cabin), so it's still kind of interesting as to how they couldn't get sound into the cabin, like many luxury manufacturers, including BMW, have before, on otherwise quiet cars.

Edit: Ford has a much better solution with their Mustang GT, as they have some pipe that connects into the cabin, giving off raw (not synthetic) engine noise.

exactly what im talking about. smart move imho

But you might die from the exhausts :D
  15. Levi68 Well-Known Member

The sound that comes directly into the cabin was invented by Toyota if I am not mistaken, and used for the first time on the LFA I think, but now also on the GT86 and new GS. If not I don't think it is bad to improve the sound the way BMW made it on the M5 as there is no possiblity of making a turbocharged engine sound good. At least the M5 seems to sound better than the MP4-12C.
  16. Just_me Well-Known Member

Golf GTI is also using a similar thing with the engine noise. BMW did not invented this ;)

    Small price to pay. :D

No, but I'd assume (hope) that Ford is actually not bringing in even a smidge of exhaust into the car.... would they?!
  18. mini_cooper4 Well-Known Member

I don't see a possible way to do that. If it's a pipe coming from the exhaust pipe connected to the interior even after catalizing the exhausts there still will be some left...

Is there any truth to this playing engine noise through the stereo..
And how does it work if you got music on..does it cut the music off..or does it play along with the music in the background?
  20. -=Hot|Ice=- Well-Known Member

Yes, it is true. It's called Active Sound Design. The following links should help answer some questions you have. The video will also help.
