Geneva Motor Show Fiat 500L World Preview In Europe in the last quarter of 2012 Fiat presents the first official images of the 500L, the new model which will have its world preview at the International Geneva Motor Show on 6 March this year. 500L – the L stands for ‘Large’ – is the new addition to the 500 range, which, following the Abarth and Cabrio versions, furthers the brand’s strategy, with the aim of extending its offer by introducing models in a position to satisfy different types of customers. With the ‘L’, the 500 expands and grows together with customers, to accommodate new experiences and needs once more. With MPV passenger space combined with the feel of a small SUV on the road and the restrained dimensions and efficiency of a B segment car, the new Fiat model defies the conventional distinctions between the various segments, combining the typical characteristics of different categories in order to create a distinctive alternative to the traditional B and C segments. With the 500L, the Fiat brand demonstrates its creative spirit once more: a marriage of functionality and emotion, it features a 5-seater single-volume structure which is 414 cm long, 178 cm wide and 166 cm high. It is a further development of the concept of ‘cab forward’ introduced by Fiat with the 600 Multipla, a precursor to the concept of the compact people carrier. Produced at the Fiat factory in Kragujevac, Serbia, 500L is a ‘first car’ for those who won’t settle for anything less than Italian style, the versatility that comes from a functional design and engine technology that sets the bar in terms of efficiency. The Fiat 500L will be introduced to Europe in the last quarter of 2012, with an engine range which will initially comprise two petrol engines (TwinAir and 1.4-litre) and a turbodiesel engine (1.3 MultiJet II) and the most advanced, state-of-the-art technology from Fiat Group Automobiles Geneva Motor Show Fiat 500L World Preview | 3D Car Shows
Nothing. This is just a more glamorous version of the Panda. However the unattractive body shape won't win over many customers outside mountain cities in Italy. BMW got it right when they introduced a four door Mini as an SUV that appeals to both families and young people. This 500L on the other hand does not strike me as a car for a single guy under the age of 35.
I had noticed that too. The graphics are even better than on the Paceman, so Mini got beat to the punch. However Fiat will be in tear when they see how the sales figures for this car will stack up against the Countryman.
FIAT is the worst car company out there. Eventhough Ferrari and Maserati are nice I can't talk about them as about Porsche in terms of quality and reliability.
Perhaps it's the angles in the shots and the decals but it looks nowhere as handsome as the country man, though it might look better in person.
I saw one a few days ago, it had italian plates and had just come out of a ship from Italy. It was indeed cute. It screams that it's a Panda underneath, but it screams so with an admirable italian flair. I really like it. Still, I agree that a Countryman looks better, but costs at least twice as much!
FIAT 500L received five stars in Euro NCAP with a total score of 83/100 FIAT 500L has received five stars in Euro NCAP with a total score of 83/100, which was obtained thanks to the 94% for adult protection, 78% for child protection, 65% for pedestrian protection and 71% of security systems to assist the driver. The result is even more important if we take into account that the The 2012 Euro NCAP has set stricter limits for getting 5 stars in the protection of adults, children and pedestrians. It is, therefore, an important grant which once again confirms the attention paid to Fiat protection and safety of all road users. To ensure the protection of passengers and other road users, the new Fiat 500L from the very beginning created to meet all international standards and guarantees the highest level of safety that is still in force. Thousands of virtual simulations enabled us to develop a completely new architecture "Small Wide" and - Fiat 500L his first appearance on the show - This is the first vehicle that was developed without the use of a prototype. The credibility of the virtual project is physically inspected the factory produced vehicles, in the form of 200 tests on components and subsystems, more than 100 crash simulations and over 100 crash tests, which included all possible types of accident: frontal, side, rollover, and pedestrian impact. In addition, one takes into consideration the different speeds at which impact may occur, the different types of obstacles and the protection of passengers with different physical characteristics. The final result is a solid cellular structure with double front pillars, which is designed in accordance with the standards in force in the United States and the related impact on the probe dimensions and specifications of the materials used. More specifically, the front structure with three lines of relieving guarantees a homogeneous front zone that deforms equally, regardless of obstacles or other vehicle collision. This enabled a significant breakthrough in the "partner protection" - the vehicle is less 'Aggressive' in the event of frontal and side impact in another vehicle - and for "self protection", because a uniform method of deformation increases efkasnost belt and air bag's, regardless of the type of attack. For complete protection Fiat passengers "City Lounge" offers a series of airbag and front "side curtains" - the application is available and knee bag for the driver - and belts with three-point connectivity and dual pre-tensioners and load limiters. Concern for the protection of passengers and pedestrians is present in the body, hood, side doors, instrument panel cross member, in addition to the present system in the seats and the steering in the event of a collision the steering column is designed to protect the driver from collisions and to prevent mechanical drive elements thrown the driver, especially in cases of frontal collisions that are more severe than anticipated requirements of EuroNCAP. In addition, the field of preventive safety, the Fiat 500L offers headlights with the function of 'daylight' (Daytime Running Lights) and fog lights with the function of 'self-adaptive cornering'. Standard standard equipment of the new model is complemented by the current security systems such as ABS with BAS (Brake Assist System), as well as with improved ESC (Electronic Stability Control), which react in extreme conditions, when the stability is threatened when the driver needs help in controlling the vehicle . ESC at Fiat 500L is equipped with a number of very useful functions: • ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) traction control system that is designed to, at any speed, with the use of the braking system and engine controls, Fiat 500L improve braking on road surfaces with poor grip. • Hill-holder: a system that helps the driver to an occasion of starting the vehicle on a hill hold brake for about 2 seconds, allowing the driver releases istvremene intervention on the gas pedal and the brake or hand brake. • MSR (Motor Schleppmoment Regelung): when in low-traction surfaces rapidly changing gear, MSR system is activated and reduces engine torque to prevent wheelspin. • DST (Driving Steering Torque): a system that enhances driving safety and handling of the vehicle. In all road conditions, "Active Power Controller" automatically adjusts the path of the vehicle when cornering, even on surfaces with poor grip. • Electronic anti-roll control (ERM) reacts when any wheel separated from the substrate: indeed, when the system detects the possibility of dynamic rollover ERM helps to achieve stability of the vehicle again and to regain control of the vehicle driver. Finally, we should mention deepened innovative braking system "City Brake Control" which is able to detect obstacles in front of the car and brake automatically if the driver does not react in time to avoid a collision. Based on several parameters (depending on the surface, the dynamics and trajectory of the vehicle, the type of barriers, tire condition, etc.), the reaction system can completely avoid a collision ("Collision Avoidance") or to minimize the consequences of impact ("Collision Mitigation"). A sophisticated device to Fiat 500L includes other additional features: Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and Prefill and Brake Assist. First, respecting the will of the driver and leaving him full control of the vehicle, provides emergency braking after carefully evaluating the position and speed of obstacles, the vehicle speed (less than 30 km / h), lateral acceleration, steering angle and pressure variations of the accelerator pedal. On the other hand, the functionality of "Prefill" activates additional power brake system, be it on Automatic Emergency Braking intervention or in the case of braking by the driver. Brake Assist recognizes emergency situations and adjusts the response of the brake pedal to allow full braking in hazardous situations. PR text
