AAAAH!!! Now even the Benz and Audi fans like it, and I don't, what's the matter with me? :t-crazy2: Of course the front, interior et.c. are nice but I haven't learned to like the rear. Well, I've got time to get used to it, it's in the stores in autumn so...
heard somewhere that that's the best color for your eyes, like the reason why orchestramembers use it to read the music.
Wow..wow.. and wow.. now I cant wait for the M5 touring.. that will be awesome judging by this beauty... well done BMW...
Well, I still think this is the best looking estate ever... But this Beemer is right up there with this. I like it a lot! Talk about a HUUUGE change from the (for me, always ugly) E60 Touring...!
I love that blue from the press pics. Centurion, that combo sounds almost perfect, replace piano black with matte fineline brown woodtrim for me. This does make it more difficult to choose: the sedan or the touring? The sedan looks absolutely perfect, and you get good utility out of a 18 cu. ft. trunk, but the touring looks just as great with even more cargo utility. The only deficit for the wagon is the inevitable weight gain affecting handling. I wasn't too crazy about the weight of the sedan to begin with. Fortunately, (well, actually, more like UNfortunately) I'm not in that position to make that decision. So how does the cargo utility compare to the E and Avant?
F11 and Audi A6 Avant are almost identical, the E-Class is still in the lead by far regarding cargo space. F11: 560-1670 litre A6: 565-1660 litre E T: 695-1950 litre
Wow, the E's HUGE! I thought that the A6 would have been comparable to the E, especially since the D-pillar is not as raked. It's hard to argue with thoe numbers, but looks like sacrifices must be made. Still love the F11.
hater! I think it's definitely an improvement over the E60 and now I see the E60 aged a lot especially since this year happened. However I still think BMW has lost that raw agile yet fresh look that made every BMW look so sharp, focused and on the ball from the 80's and 90's. :t-cheers:
You can see it in the side profile pic, it's easy to see that the E is the workhorse of the three. 5er and A6 look more elegant and dynamic from the side: Mercedes made a nice optical trick: the 3rd side window is very sleek and elegant, and pretty much like the other two...but the actual shape of the car is not following this window line like on the A6 and 5er; the roof is extended further making the boot-door quite staight, unlike the others (and creating more interior space)
I agree with everything you said. While, I think it's the best looking 4-door out there, it's so refined and predictable and safe (design-wise, and I'm sure, user-wise). It doesn't create much tension from within. It's lost that quirky design eccentricities. For example, the E34 had the clam-shell hood that formed a cowl over the headlights and grills. That was one of the design features that made it stand out from it's rival brethren. When you looked at it initially, you scratched your head, but as you keep looking at it, you'd start to love it. It should be noted that this generation, like the E39, is where their respective prior generation's design was refined. I'd expect the next gen to be challenging to interpret and understand. But another point I'd like to bring up, is that dichotomy of whether consumers want refinement or complication. Even just within myself, it's hard to know which one I'd want. As I've stated before, the F10 is one of nicest 4-door out there. But it's rather safe. Whereas the E60, while aged now, was a challenge and was appreciated upon subsequent viewings. I'm happy that BMW does go through this cycle of safe-challenging-safe-challenging, it keeps enthusiasts of design on their toes.
So, we are talking touring here and in that sense the F11 looks stunning! Very sporty side profile and a narrower glass-house that ends in a good proportional rear end THUS just as the E90 touring, I find the F11 VERY appealing and practicality comes standard :t-cheers: Well done BMW, well done!
Just a shock, it's unbelievable how different these cars look in different trims. Just the S212 for example: Looks much better on the photo above then on the comparison photo. So with some options the S212 can be also very stylish…nevertheless a sporty family would choose the A6 or 5-series I bet! BMW did a great job with the Touring. Especially the side profile is much more sporty 3-series then 5-series. In my opinion that's very good. One sleek machine.
Unfortunately in the North American market the 5er Gran Turismo makes the 5er Touring redundant as the 5er Touring will not be sold in this market. Demand for the Touring in particular the 3er and 5er has diminished rapidly with sales dropping at the rate of 200 units per month. So BMW has taken the entrepreneurial decision to remove the 5er Touring from the US Market. With hindsight the BMW 5er Gran Turismo since it's introduction to the US has sold far more units than the E61 535i/xDrive3.5i Touring combined in the past year. http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicles/5series/touring/2010/showroom/index.html More of the same . But if you have a good idea you can reinterpret it for it's bloodline relative.
