Artist, stop flooding your troll-work here, please. Stop acting like 15-year old jerk. :t-cheers: You're fully entitled to express your opinion - but watch your attitude & language.
its valid look at it..isnt the greenhouse the same? dont get upset cause its a bmw.. even a blind dude can see that the shape is the same..
My post wasn't aimed at Prius vs GT comparison - but at your previous posts. They are a bit to expressive. So, watch out ...
Ahh... the old "if you do not like it, it's because you don't understand". Great stuff. I would never buy this car. I don't like it and I have no need for it as I'm neither operating a taxi business for those who like to pay a little more, nor am I a 75 year old comfort narcotic. So, I guess you are right, I'm not in the demo. Does that render my opinion invalid? Does that mean that I could never understand? Get real.
klier, Artist's predictably inflaming and boorish comments aside, it does beg the question: if not a design statement then what?
Oh well i think ile bow out for now from this thread.. Im happy that this car is out..so that we are spared the marketing CRAP about how great it will be.. Now we can all see what it is.. and make up our own minds.. Other than that my suggestions to the BMW fans.. would be..dont try to defend the car.. The thread will just turn very nasty very fast.. Cause frankly 95% dont like it..
Wow..you all are really picking apart this car! The was no extreme need for an X6, but everyone seemed to love that. What up with all the hate surronding this vehicle? Is this because there is already a 5 wagon or is their something else about this vehicle?
Yes ... if saying this car is "pointless" in general. It can be pointless for you, but that does not mean the car is pointless in general. :t-cheers: It's like saying something a small number of population like / need / use is "pointless", "useless" etc. Not a very open-minded perspective, don't you think.
I have to admit that it's "quite nice for what it is" as klier wrote somewhere in this thread. The interior is very nice, yet I'm not sold on this cue, the front door design continuing to the rear door. As for the exterior, it's not spectacular, nor ugly. It's just ok, with some nice design cues. That said, I'm not in the target group. Good for me
Thats true! You really can't call this car pointless...if it is...the same would go for the M3, Z4, C63, CLS...etc. None of those cars are needed! Yes we love them...but they are not needed. NOR do they serve a useful purpose other then speed or pleasure (feeling the sun for the Z4). So calling this car pointless is wrong without looking at the many other "pointless" German cars.
I'm starting to get complaints in many automotive communities - that debates about cars have become like debates about beauty contests. Everybody is just discussing car's appearence, design styling ... Less, and less people talk about technical & other aspects of the car. Not to mention driving. Yes, the GT is not the prettiest car in the world ... So what? But to some the 5er GT will be perfect - the look, the driving, the functionality. And those people are what? Morons? Sure ... Very open-minded opinion. Very intellectual.
HoH, I feel very differently about the purpose of performance cars because that is exactly what they're meant to be and what they've been bringing to motoring enthusiasts since the dawn of motoring: the joy and passion associated with driving a sports car or a roadster. A roadster is not pointless either - it's about feeling the drive in a visceral, natural experience. What some of us are discussing, much to EnI's palpable irritation is the "point" of a car that, when measured against its more conventional siblings, has no tangible advantage other than being different. It is not more practical than a wagon. It is not more dynamic than a saloon. It is not better looking than either. It is not more aerodynamic. It is not more efficient. It is only different. Oh and EnI, I quite fancy myself as intellectually competent so you too should steer clear of the trite generalisation and let's get on with BMW making the point here so as to convince me otherwise. Here's your opportunity.
Of course it is pointless to me and many others while for a (very) few it is perfect. That is not my point. I must be entitled to express my opinion even if I'm not a perfect match in terms of the product's target segment. I should be allowed to express these views without receiving arrogant and condescending comments about my ability to understand the matter at hand. How is that for open-mindedness? Well, I'm sure the 5 GT will sell, and that with a healthy margin. I guess that is much needed in the BMW of today. And I guess that is why the need of this small demo is catered for instead of the needs of those who truly enjoy driving. Fair enough.
Wow, very one. Isn't the designer's motto "Good exterior design brings the customer to the showroom and good interior design sells the car." I don't think there is anyone who says "The design of this car sucks, but I'll buy it because its techinically sound." That's by far the dumbest piece of complaint I've ever heard. :t-cheers:
Seems like the "pointless" comments have hit a raw nerve with one of the BMW disciples? Pointless seems pretty accurate in the context that this automobile does not seem to address a new segment/requirement/need. To me, it reeks of a "build it and they will come" or "build it because we can" type of strategy which seems misguided given the BMW brand. Success as measured by unit sales will be the only way to settle this debate. I personally think that it will be a disappointment in that regard. :eusa_thin
