Great, so BMW have succeeded in making a car that pretty much alienates the majority of its fan base but appeals more to Mercedes lovers. Unfortunately, however, not enough to get them to choose it over a Merc!
That's true... so we can say that at least this looks better then a minivan. But that is hardly a compliment
Nope, touring's still coming. Check the spy pics. As said: GT is a niche car. Also not made for a typical & average BMW customers - therefore it's like a quantum mechanics to most of you, as said. Expected 5er sales: 10% GT, 20% Touring, 70% Sedan.
Kinda odd for them to do that, but I still like the GT. I really like to see how much of this GT design will go into the Sedan.
Quite a lot. Expect different - more sporty - proportions though. And some details are different as well. But not much.
It's a BMW and surely you must understand now that every BMW has the same DNA meaning it is enjoyable to drive , equally powerful and class leading in it's segment and more efficient than any of our competitors. I dont have to fall back on the marketing of how dynamic and sporty the GT is because it is afterall a BMW. And although "niche" projects like this are unconventional they do focus on conventional BMW attributes. Seeing as the car has been leaked you can begin to understand the intention and focus on the comfort and luxurious premium feeling as showcased in the leaked official pictures. You can have four or five seats depending on your requirements as some have chose to read between the lines and comment. You hit the nail on the head with the reference to corporate clients as BMW have been previewing to hotel chains , art galleries , airports etc anywhere that requires client transportation. Several of these areas have become interested in the aspects of the GT. Especially the interior and amount of luggage space on offer. Which is where the latest rumours that Mercedes are working on a concept to be shown in 2010 based upon the image designated by the F500 Mind Concept Car, aimed directly at the GT. And a replacement for the unique but poorly received R-Klasse. Why? Because knowing too well that BMW have been showcasing the GT in the corporate world where S-Klasse is king and in a time where downsizing and economising is the norm , they have told us they will be looking for a more frugal , passenger orientated replacement. Whether they downsize to S-Klasse Hybrid or indeed the GT, The GT has made it's impression in anothers territory. From September BMW will use the GT as client transportation as well as the 7er.
The funny thing is that its not practial enough to be a van..so i stand corrected its NOT a VAN.. So in bmw´s mind this must be to the 5er what the X6 is to the X5 and CLS to the E.. A design statement.. eye candy.. a product where practicality is not numero uno..but design is.. . . . . . To bad it looks like a Turd..hahahah.. Defeats the purpose i guess
Oh lOl, I couldn`t agree with you more. It`s very 1970s like. And I think it`s aweful looking! It reminds me of the AMC Pacer of 1974 My sisters used to call the AMC Pacer "the bubble car..:t-hihi:" The design is going to look quit stupid next to an ML, or X6 for that matter. Is this supposed to compete with the R-Class? Give me the R-Class anytime. BMW could have created a supercar instead of spending money on something like this..
Thanks Scott, yeah, some of us have read that corporate positioning message before. So, the new 5er GT is, ultimately, a glorified taxi. But, by BMW. My word, what is the world coming to?
Holy crap. You're not a fanboy, but a fanatic :t-banghea And your logic is completely wrong. A design statement...hahahaha...SUUUUURE :laugh2::laugh2::laugh2:
Now that would be interesting to see if Mercedes will rival this. I wasn't too much of a fan of the concept, but it will be something to see if it made it to production. Maybe they will wait to see how the 5 GT sales go. I'm sure they will want to do more research after the R-class issue.
Well the AMC Pacer is more of a hatchback than a fastback. The 5er GT is pure fastback - a very difficult design to pull off - and thus a modern iteration of the late '70s Rover SD1. In the next version of the New Avengers, Purdy and Gambit will be driving around in a 5er GT. Maybe then, it'll catch on... Oh, and as for the R-Class, I'd rather buy a 5er GT and wear inside-out cactus skin socks than drive an R-Class - surely the most hideously vile Mercedes of all time.
Same on my side...Nice interior...UGLY outside. Because the X5 is adequate enough for a full size SAV. 8 series???? Rolls, LAmbo, Porche...all doing fine in these HARSH financial times. [/QUOTE] We had the 7er GT intended for production but the economic situation brought the curtain down , Some manufacturers do well because they have customers who are immune to the crisis. Porsche are not doing as well as these manufacturers hence the VW PAG Power struggle.
I doubt this will be a R-class compeititor. I think BMW just decided to go with a different approach to the "crossover" after see the R-class sales. The X6 would be more of a competitor even those it serves a completely different purpose.
What is it then? With its tight back seat..and no good back window? Doesent seem much larger than a 5er touring inside.. Why dont you put some logic to this.. or for once just admit that they ****** up? PS Fanatic to me is someone who likes everything no matter how shitty
