Yep, not exactly the same segment, but it´s still strange for me. It´s like if Mercedes comes up with a SAC like the X6, but with the size of the GL, and claim it´s its top end model.
well, i sure hope you're right! i'm concerned that the increase in size to alleviate some people's concerns about the back seat will negate a lot of the otherwise achievable weight loss.
Well, my message to "people" will, in that case, be to cut back on the burgers and try to find their local jogging track.
What puzzles me most is, that a 1er tii with these specs will outperform the standard M3 on the track... will BMW allow this and also sell the 1er tii cheaper than the M3? Or is this a limited edition with a big price tag on it?
M3 outperforms the M5 on the track, so hopefully that is an indication they don't care about enforcing some artificial hierarchy. BTW welcome.
The M5 has always been about being the sporty sedan. The M3 was meant to be the "motorsport for the streets because of the motorsport we have to do" product. As that is no longer the case, why not move along to a more suitable platform?
Wow mr. batosai... easy there buddy. There's a difference between the amount of information SCOTT knows, and the amount the information he's willing to let us in on. Just because you've asked him (as have I in this thread), doesn't mean he will give you answer. All of us on GCF understand this fact about SCOTT, and eventhough it may seem rude to not answer our questions, SCOTT has a specific role within BMW, and we're accepting of that and put more emphasis on the insight and info he DOES provide, rather than what he chooses to not divulge with us at any given time. It's quite simple. You can ask all the questions you want, ..and if you get some of them answered, then that's great...but more than likely answers will come in little droplets over a period of days, weeks and months. Just take a step back and be patient. It's clear that SCOTT does not want to clarify if the 6er GT will have suicide-doors or not.
First of all I work in an industry which revolves leading to decisions made and then re-evaluted. Change is constant. As I said I will do a comprehensive update on the 3er and the CS cars once I complete my current projects. Currently my time is spent on the F10 to which an important event will see the new 5er launched to the world and overseeing teams who are currently on the first stage of location shooting for the BMW X5 and BMW 3er Coupe and Cabrio now ongoing in South Africa in ready for launch in the new year. After that it will be the launch of the MINI Crossover.
I believe Scott wrote in another post that the X3 was delayed. They are definitely not shooting the press pics already though. Sadly. Too soon for that. X3 development has been in the lowest gear possible for at least a year already. But it doesn't seem to bother BMW that they are selling a car that's based on the 1998 E46.
So, the next question is, what on earth could be comming for the X5 that is worth giving an exclusive shoot in RSA?
Yep, time sure does fly. The E70 X5 debuted in November of 2006, so it'll be 3 years and a few months until the facelifted X5 is available. So I guess that seems about right in the life-cycle timeline of a BMW. As for the 3er coupe, it became available in August 2006, so that too is right on schedule for an upgrade. It just doesn't feel like 3 years ago though... I still remember when these photos were posted here on GCF.
Scott could you also provide an update on the Z8/Z10/ Premium Roadster? In a recent post you suggested that this project could be back on. I have been waiting, cheque book open for years for this car. Thanks Nutsaboutcars
