2013 BMW X5 - F15 - Spy Shots & R The future generation of the BMW X5 SAV, expected to debut somewhere in 2013 and known as F40 inside the German company might adopt a new lightweight chassis, an aluminum one, instead the steel one that is used for the German SUV now. The third generation of the BMW X5 is likely to introduce a new chassis, able to reduce of course, the mass of the model but also to not forget the consequences of this change, that is the higher power-to-weight ratio and the improved fuel consumption. http://www.bmwcoop.com/2010/11/20/2013-bmw-x5-f40-to-adopt-a-new-aluminum-chassis/
I doubt there will be an all aluminum chassis. Aluminum doors, tailgate, body panels, etc. can be believable.
Looks like an E70 with aftermarket taillight job. Scott had used a artist impression of F40 a while back in his avatar. I will search.
Isn't it too soon for a new face? The next X5, imo, should at least be a couple of years away. Nevertheless, the pic up there is jaw-dropping hot.
Development work on the new X5 commenced just over 2 years ago. I don't know much about it other than to say that the Head of BMW's X Models Product Line is Dr Markus Braunsperger - formerly head of body development and motorcycles development. From what i've heard, given his time as head of body development, he is a very strong advocate of lightweight technology.
^ I like the X3-like greenhouse in that drawing. The E70 greenhouse is too much like the regular Touring models (like the completely straight lower window line), and X1 and X3 have changed that (for the better)! Hopefully the X5 will follow, and I think it will.
And that is almost an understatement:t-cheers: Something to keep us guessing and wondering fo another year and a half, I simply can't wait!:eusa_danc
Wooow, I really like this. It´s just that I´m a bit skeptical when regarding to this sketches. But i´d love the new X5 to look like this.
Thanks. It appears that it is growing in size to be more of MB GL competitor. Kidney grill is wider. Headlights appear bigger. Fenders are outwards.
Man unless the next M-class blows me away, I would really like to get the next X5. It truly is a great SUV and that photo looks great. Not to mention if it is as good looking as the 5 series it will be a major hit.
You're welcome. Coz now the X6 is offered with the 5-seater, i hope this new X5 will be a proper 7-seater SUV too, to compete with the GL.:eusa_pray
I don't think the X5 will be positioned against the GL in the future. That task was reserved for the X7 that was canceled many years ago (fortunately so IMO).
Maybe not a direct competitor for the GL, but a bit longer in wheelbase to accommodate 2 more proper seats for adults, coz now on the E70 the 2 extra seats are really useless, only children can seat there. I hope..
How do you come to the conclusion that it will grow in size to become more of a GL competitor when there is nothing in the picture to reference it to? For all we know it could be the size of a baby shoe.
