Then BMW's new direction will suit you very well! There is bound to be some sort of SAFC* by then, a very sporty and dynamic van for 7 people.

Looks very nice lets hope we get an M version now from the 1 series base. Or wil it be 2 serie s then.

It looks like the car wil grow bigger and heavier as with al new cars.

I have an 130i and bmw m3 sedan. I must admit the m3 sedan is rather big for a real sporty M car. Only the high rev M engine is a dream. The overal size of the M3 is too big and lumpy.

If a one series M car with a new highrev lightweight six cilinder arrives my m3 love boat must make room then.

Apart from the upright kidneys it doesn't look new to me,the headlights is just a small twist of the current model. This works as a FL:D

What's so special about SAFC, is the fact that it will be an ultra light, low center of gravity track monster for 7 people......only @ BMW~
Special about this new sportscar, as said in the press release, is the high seating position...BMW says this way it will be better to see what's really happening on the track :)

The next 1-Series has a lot of potential here in the U.S. if two things happen. The dollar/Euro situation works itself out to where the 1-Series can be significantly cheaper than the 3-Series and secondly it simply needs to be a much better looking car. BMW could build the next 1-Series here to fix the first problem.

BMW will not build the 1er over there in the U.S. There is absolutely no reason to do so.
And secondly, the 1er is not ugly at all. Far, far from it. The 3-door is the best looking hatch on the market, in fact ----> subjectivity doesn't help here.

Another thing that might happen is that the US could face car prices about 50 % higher than today, more in line with the rest of the world. Secondly, I think the days when BMW gives away free credit to car buyers might soon end.

Cars are so cheap in the US today, it is almost silly.

As regards the looks, that is rather subjective but the look works fine in the European market. I think it is just that the US is starting to understand that in 9 out of 10 cases you do not need a larger car than an Audi A3 or a BMW 1-series. The days of the F150 type cars are counted.

I read in carspyshots yesterday that BMW was retourning to their 90s and was staring to make same sausagge with different sizes, much like Audi.

I didn´t like when I see the E90 that it hadn´t any similarities with the E65 and E60 design, but when I see the spy pics of the new BMW models, like PAS or F10, and see the same interior layout as the F01 X5 and X6, or the PAs rear lights having the same L-Shape as the ones on the X1, 3er LCI, or even the X5 and X6... Don´t like this.

I really think BMW had their best designs in the 90s, but I hope they don´t use this to make their cars too similar in terms of design.

There will be more unified design in the cabin.
Interior: similar dashboard layout & trim (not in all models though), same display, same iDrive unit, same e-shifter + e-controls, same NAVI / HI-FI unit, in some models even A/C controls will be the same).

On the outside there will be more similarities then today but still enough differences.
Exterior: upright grille, shark-like nose, snake-eye headlights with corona rings, shark-fin antenna, L-shaped tail lights with L-shaped LED strips, Hofmeister kink, coupe-ish greenhouse / roof line, long & sharp main character line (mainly straight).

Yes, the design will be more unified than in the current generation but nothing like pre-Bangle BMWs, or contemporary Audis.
