Whenever I see that impression of the A9 it reminds me of the front of the F32 3er Coupe in the headlights, and some early designs for a future CS replacement.
Report: Audi A9 will share chassis with Lamborghini Estoque - Report: Audi A9 will share chassis with Lamborghini Estoque
A preview of the newest issue of Autobild (on newsstands tomorrow) shows that the Audi A9 will be featured. Due for release in 2014, the A9 will be offered as a traditional 2 door coupe as well as in convertible form. The car will be based on a modified version of the current A8s' MLB ASF II platform matrix. It will be positioned to compete against M-Bs' CL and BMWs' new 6 series. It should be an interesting issue.
Extremely interested in seeing what Audi can do with such an expensive Coupe. I use to thnk the A5 looks more upscale thna the 3er Coupe and the E-Coupe, so the A9 should be fantastic. BTW, they have chosen 2014 because the S-Coupe debuts in 2013, and they want to launch their car after the Benz, as they use to. EDIT:
^^^ So according to you both the front and the rear look like F32 3er coupe....damn, A9 is going to be good looking then!
If Audi are going to produce a car to compete with the 6 Series Coupe surely that would mean an A7 Coupe and not an A9 Coupe. An A9 Coupe would be competition for an S Class Coupe. I am expecting an A7 Coupe but I'm doubtful about an A9 coming into play. Just depends if Lambo produce their concept.
Don“t know why you say this. In the pics Autobild show in the article, the rear seems to be very much the same as the new A8, but sleemer.
The BMW continues L-Shaped elegance but the L-Shape is more diagonal upwards , it is how the bootlid merges with the lights. It's a mix of 6er and Vision Connected Drive. This example although not exact in relation to size shows the indication. The front of the F32 retains the similar E92 Headlight shape with the angular flicks at the corners.
According to the Autobild article, there appear to be many question marks with regard to the upcoming A9. While it has apparently been decided that the A9 will indeed be produced as a more traditional 2 door coupe + cabriolet with a standard trunk (not hatch) and strategically placed between the BMW 6 series and M-B S-Class coupe, there remains much speculation regarding the cars' underpinnings. Perhap based on the facelifted A8 with its' MLB ASF II matrix platform and due for introduction in 2014. Or perhaps based on the upcoming MSB RWD/4WD large car platform currently being developed by Porsche. In the latter case, the A9 would not be introduced until presumably fall 2016/spring 2017. Perhaps a precursor to an A8 successor based on the new MSB matrix. In short, very much water to flow under the bridge before we can expect to actually see this car.
Judging by the photographs of the new coupe, I have a hunch that the GC is going to be sooooFAR OUT !
Upcoming Audi A9 Here's an update regarding the upcoming Audi A9, which a couple of reports just surfaced on 3/21/11, are now stating that it will be a two-door coupe, and not a 4-door coupe, as previously thought, and as the Lamborghini Estoque will be. I don't know how accurate that this report is, but I wanted to post it here, and maybe some more information will surface. Audi does now have the A7, and will sport S7, and RS7 variants, according to reports, is around 5-meters, and will well compete with the Mercedes Benz CLS and others. The Audi A9 is also said to be based on the "modular longitudinal architecture"/A8 chassis. Here is a link to one of these reports, posted below: 2014 Audi A9: new details revealed - 4wheelsnews.com
Sorry, I didn't catch this thread, and I'm new to German Car Forum, but, thank you, Bmer, for bringing this to my attention and moving my post to the correct place. Now I'm waiting more to see what develops in regard to the upcoming Audi A9.
Yes, I could logically see that arrangement: a "base" model with the new 4.0L single-turbo V8 I could see being offered, a higher edition with the W12, as is available in the A8L, and perhaps an S9 with the twin-turbo 4.0L V8, which would also be shared with Bentley models, as is the W12. This A9, I feel, would likely be larger than the Bentley Continental, which stands at around 190" in length, so if it's said to be over 5-meters in length, I would see at least a good 199-202" overall, which would put it around the size of it's competitor, the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class, which will be the S-Class coupe in it's next incarnation, around the time the A9 would hit showrooms and streets. The S-Class coupe, however, could grow in size, being it's highly possible that the next-generation S-Class sedan will grow from it's predecessor. This A9 could really become one large, sleek, expressive coupe, with great presence, and likely a nice stance, too, with a narrow DLO with no B-post and a the side windows full open, could add greatly to the equation - this is what I envision.
