Following the lead of its new CLS, the E-class-derived four-door coupe, Mercedes-Benz is planning a four-door, C-class-based coupe called the CLE to shake up the next generation of its smallest range, which arrives in mid-2006. The CLE will utilize now-trendy rear suicide doors in a slick, low-slung package. Engines will range from a supercharged 170-hp, 1.8-liter direct-injection four to a 390-hp, 5.5-liter AMG V-8. To save costs, the CLE will use the roof of the next CLK coupe. :icondrool
I dont know, but the rear looks different too me form the profile, other than that... very similar... stupid idea though... whats the point of this car... could have put suicide doors on the CLS, i think thye need another model in the line up. Where did this info come from? Is there a link to this?
Hmm....this is what I think the CLS should have looked like. A much sportier E-Class Chassis with Suicide doors to more closely resemble a Coupe. An E-Class coupe is fine, but the whole 4-Door Coupe thing still bothers me sometimes. The CLK fits well because it fits between the C and E. I don't see where this thing is going and what the point of this car is. I truly hope this is just some journalists fantasy and something that MB is not seriously considering. This is the last thing MB needs, another model to suck up resources from Quality Control.
I realy hope that Mercedes makes the CLE. It looks like the CLS but it's smaller and it should be cheaper if they make it. It looks realy good!
Same story again? It seems that MB didn't learn their lesson... I don't think they will make that CLE. It seems a little weird to me. It could sell (like CLS) though...
I doubt if this car will happen. This is very old story/photo. Mercedes is going to try and get leaner now so I don't think this will happen and the Phantom like doors definitely won't happen. M
The interior in the CLS is a joke. While it's very pleasing to the eye w/ nice detailing w/ chrome here and there and beautiful wood trim, the layout and space is incredibly limited. It's almost comical but not nearly as sad when you realize the front doors are the size of little fisher price flinstones mobiles. The roof sits disgustingly low and makes you feel like you're in some sort of ultra luxurious arcade simulator.
No more of a joke than the 6-series, who's rear seats are absolutely useless. If Merc decided to produce this, I have no problem with it as long at is a PREMIUM product in all senses of the word. Not some lame ass marketing excersice. Also remember coupes are very attractive to a manufacuter like Mercedes because even though they can eat into sales of some of their sedans, they have fatter profit margins on coupes.
Sure Mr. Mercedes, but how much smaller could this model possibly be than the CLS - it just doesn't make much sense - it also could damage the exclusive image of the CLS - for what?
Thats true roberto, how they position this car in terms of price will be extremely tricky. Perhaps at a small price premium to the CLK range, but not too close to the CLS? Not sure really. It probably won't happen anyway.
I think some are getting all worked up over much of nothing. This car isn't even talked about anymore and the new C-Class (on which this so called CLE would be based) isn't even out yet. The CLS' interior a joke? Have to disagree with that. It wasn't designed to be spacious like a sedan. It was designed to remind one of a coupe. Thats why it is smaller than the E-Class with the little doors. The CLS was designed to be different, special if you will. M
I ve sit in the CLS and It didnt feel like what you writed! "sort of ultra luxurious arcade" , shee!! Go tell that to someone never sit in a CLS!! :t-crazy2: And BTW, IF there would be a CLE, there would be a lot of people saying that it is useless, untill it came out and selled like hot cakes......JUST LIKE THE CLS!!
Gosh mercedes really does kno how to shoot themselves in the foot. First of all they're not doing well at all and the keep introducing more and more models. You got the R, and the GL (all with different sized engines and AMG badges) and now their talking about a CLE, come on?? They have a good thing here with the CLS, why ruin it with half witted smaller version. Its just idiotic. They need to have their designers work on their main cars not some half ling version of some other car. Mr. Mercedes: "No more of a joke than the 6-series, who's rear seats are absolutely useless." yea but BMW doesnt try to pretend the 6 is a four door with real rear seats like mercedes does with the CLS.
