Ah..my SL. The SL has been forgotten over the last year it seems with the new S, ML, R and CLS. Time for a facelift and bring on the SL550.

MB has a knack for creating instant classics. Now only if the technology could last as long as the cars looks.

Only a few things that bother me about MB..

-Everyone and their mom has one.
-Oldtimer look on a lot of their cars.
-Over complicated tech.
-And that's about it....

true. Here, everyone that makes a little more money that the avarage people, buys himself an MB, usually a C or an E-Class. Same happens with BMW, but only with 3er...

Their popularity is the price of success. It is up to Mercedes to now re-invent themselves as an exclusive carmaker again. This won't happen with their "regular" models even again. It is the V12 and AMG models that are somewhat exclusive, depending on where you live in the world. I don't see their tech any more complicated than Audi or BMW and in most cases a Mercedes is simpler. The fancy brakes on their way out thank goodness.

I don't see how MB can reinvent themselves again. The brand is still an icon even after hard times. When you establish a credibility and a heritage like MB has, that just doesn't fade away. It stays for time now and time that is still to come. I wish they were more brave w/ their design philosiphy as well instead of challenging BMW's controversial design theme w/ their own. Comes off as very contrived and unoriginal, even though a lot of their new cars look fairly decent(W221).

I agree that they have a certain status and that it hard for them to one-up themselves so maybe re-invent wasn't the right word. I just want to see something stunning from them. Like some type of far out technology or styling. The S and CLS are half-way there, but with so many hot cars on the market Mercedes doesn't have the floor to itself anymore. Time for something that has people talking for years.

A "different" SL65 AMG:

The sticker appears to show "Sunshine Yellow". Going to be a tough sell on Ebay I predict.
