I would say this is a typical MB kinda design, apart from some... dramatic lines around the car.
Looking at some of the pics, the car has quite a similar stance with the CS-concept, may mainly be due to the rather short front overhang, which had always been a BMW thing. The rear is hardly exciting though, look at the Mazda 6 and the Mazda 3, and this is a mix between those two, they really seem to run out of ideas when it comes to the rear.. I dont' know, but the feeling is that they had rear lights of this shape on their wagon-shaped cars for years and years, all they did was changing the graphics..

That's ground clearance of an SUV:D

More like the ground clearance of a lorry. I can do push-ups under that Benz.

Well, i can't. I have to loose some weight :D

To be honest I don't think it looks that bad with that ground clearance. it looks like it's floating.

^i was just about to say the same..
Often cars (not SUV´s ) loose all their good looks if the ground clarence is to high
Hence ppl lowering cars for looks..
But this one seems to pull it off..and still look kinda sporty and sleek

Although it shares some aesthetic similarities with other marques (including Renault and Mazda) I do think Mercedes is starting to define a new theme here.

This looks pretty darn good as far as I'm concerned -- one of the most stylish car designs I have seen in some time.

come to think of it, the profile and rear are great looking, there are some exquisite details within, although arguably there is a good deal of influence from other design languages here. but one thing i cannot get over is the headlights, the quad units don't look integrated together, and they don't look integrated into the design. the worse angle is dead front IMO, i just can't seem to get over it.

After seeing these pics I agree Rob. It's actually pretty beautiful.

I espacially like this pic.. it kind of shows the whole concept of the rear wheel arch
it looks like a upside down Fork..

I think this is what we shall see in Paris and not the E yet. Or maybe both. I have spoken to a my dealer at Mercedes and he said they are going to start taking orders for the new E at the end of this year.

I also think this is pretty much how the E will look like at least 1/3 of the car but I also think there is much new CLK (or E class coupe) in this one especially the grill.

Yes the front and sides are very promising. I can already tell by the latest spy pics of the AMG version of the E being tested by racecar drivers that I'm going to like the E. The Coupe, specifically the back and rear-side profile are the sticky points. It can't look like the C209. I wonder if this E-Coupe will be really based on the E-Class chassis. If so then the rumors about a true C-Class might be true. 2 coupes real coupes, no hatchbacks would be wonderful for Mercedes.

    look like a T-REX to me...:D

Hmmm...I like most of this car quite a bit, but this shot is just beyond horrible in my humble opinion. The ground clearance makes it look like some kind of freak....or perhaps a toad or lizard

I'm a bit confused about MB upcoming plans,so there will be two coupes? one based on E and the other based on C?
  17. klier Member

^ We don't know anything about a new C-class coupé, but it would only be logical if they decided to make one. I think this new E-class coupé will be quite a bit more upscale than the E92 and A5, and Mercedes will loose sales if they don't offer something in this highly popular segment.
My feeling is that the E coupé will be priced in the box of the BMW 6er......and the 6er is pretty premium compared to the E-class/5er

Yeah I was just looking at it logically if they really base this new coupe on the E-Class chassis. However it appears that the new CLK/E-Coupe will still be C-Class based. Just like with Mercedes' gasoline engine plans, its best to wait and see what they do because the speculation is all over the map right now.

I believe they will both be based on the C-class chassis. More $$ for MB.

Of course the E class estate/station wagon will probably be quite similar -- cool!
