Gosh, that plastic at the rear is like a towel wrapped around a woman. It needs to be peeled like an onion.

I assume this car will have Apple's SIRI integrated? That SIRI button, which they talked about yesterday at WWDC (they have contracts with 12 car manufacturers, Mercedes included) I'm actually a little dissappointed they used BMW car for promo shots...
I remember talk that new S class will be able to talk to driver, so this was nothing more than this useless (well, at least in my country it doesn't work) web based function and OTOT other cars will have it too...

The S-Class is too good for Siri. If anything, Mercedes would develop a proprietary system.

LMAO. Post of the day already, and it's the first thing I read.
Sure, MB does these things better than Apple. Just like Apple makes better cars than MB.

Can't blame Apple for using the hottest car brand, no?

I agree that voice recognition has been crap prior to Siri but the S-Class is a technical marvel and Mercedes would surely not appreciate their long history of innovation being taken a bite out of with Siri as the primary connoisseur in their flagship.

You probably forget that Steve Jobs was fan of Mercedes. SL. Several of them.

True, and if 11 other manufactures use that technology it will be common place to the S-Class for sure.
Count on the S being 3-steps ahead as it has always been. It is the King of the 4-door car (the Alpha and Omega) with the most advanced achievements in Automotive history as a whole compared to any other 4-door out there. That will not change.

I think it's a camouflage extemporaneous (fast) a few minutes, only to move a car in the yard and / or load it onto a truck.

The engine takes air from below, and obviously it is cold.
If it was hybrid in electric mode, they would not have so carefully avoided to cover discharges.

True. Maybe that's why SIRI is rumored to use the same supplier as MB's voice recognition? :D

    Mercedes-Benz Speech Control timeline
1970s First research projects started within AEG Telefunken.
1996 Linguatronic speech recognition with 30 words introduced in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class in Germany.
1997 Mercedes introduces the car, which listens to words at the Frankurt show (IAA '97).
1999 Speech recognition introduced in the USA in May of 1999 in the Mercedes S-Class.
2001 Second generation introduced with 300 words: controls phone, CD-changer, radio, tape, switch to NAV.
2001 MBUSA introduces second generation speech control on the MY2002 M-Class.
2003 Navigation address input with 3000 word vocabulary (04+ S, CL, SL, all with MOST) debuts.
2006 Optional MOST based voice control debuts on the MY2007 ML, R and GL.
    2007 Nuance VoCon launches on 2008 C-Class.
2012 SIRI integration starting with A-Class DriveStyle App, with B, C, E to follow later in 2012.

Exactly. The creator and innovator behind Apple, was a Benz guy through and through.

As for Siri on the S-Class. I just don't see M-B developing anything near the capabilities of SIRI (which is in beta form, by the time the next S is out, I'm sure we'll have enhanced SIRI via IOS 6), and if they did, it would cost them tons of money. The voice recognition in my E-Class SUCKS, and I mean SUCKS. I've actually yelled in absolute anger at it for not understanding names of people out of my phone book (though it seems to understand about every other simple command, maybe mine is a fluke).

I have to tell you K-A, the voice control on my new BMW F10 was appalling and the C320 CDI with COMAND was even worse. What is peculiar is that the voice control on my new Range Rover Sport is far far superior to both BMW and MB - it can understand read out telephone numbers and contacts and other commands with no problem. Strange, since other aspects of the interface are outdated (by the time the reverse camera kicks in, I've finished reversing LOL!). PS - the hard drive can only take about 15 CD's as well and the steering wheel switchgear is counter-intuitive. IE: the buttons you use most like "volume" are not for right-handed people.

It may be the SERVO-HMI that they showed in the F700 RV in 2007

    a SIRI update ;)

Donna Boland, from Mercedes-Benz USA, confirms that there will not be some sort of Apple button on the steering wheel -- rather, Mercedes will continue to use its own navigation buttons, which also work for Android-integrated services.

"Apple seems to be focusing on the fact that they're helping with this button that will be on the steering wheel," she says. "But we already have those buttons for hands-free operation of the system, so for us, there is no change -- that's for other automakers who don't yet have that [button]."

Mercedes promised integration "within the next 12 months -- actually, a little over six months from now." :)

We saw the GL pics while filming in March 5th. The car debuted on April 2nd.

If we follow the same logic, the S-Class was caught barely disguised on May 29, so we may see the official pics the next week.

    I HOPE SO.

That would be really nice, but I think it will be sometime in July. Paris show is in Sept right? Then again, the car is obviously ready so we can only hope.

But voice recognition (it is really speech recognition) is not what Siri is about. Heck, dragon talk or whatever software did that for years. It is Siri's intelligent natural language interface that os so remarkable. Good luck to any car manufacturer trying to develop that on their own.

Mr. Link claimed he was told the car would be presented before July 5. I think it´s safe to say we are less than 20 days from the official debut.
