Your welcome and thank you for that sketch. Until that new render and your drawing, I haven't seen anything very close to the actual vehicle since FEP roll-out back on February 22nd.

I agree with this so much. When the FL C first came out, I loved the headlight design. I still don't hate it by any means, but its lost much of the "wow" factor for me. The same thing happened with the A Class, but my impression deteriorated even quicker. Don't even begin with the new GLK.

The GL, G, ML and the SL are the only recent designs I really like. Interestingly, they're the ones that might be the most "safe" or conservative to the average eye. I don't want to be a negative brat about it, but if the S Class doesn't look clean and regal, it almost feels like it won't matter what tech is inside it. Shallow, I know.

I'm not afraid about "clean and regal" look of the W222. S class always presents elegance, clean shapes and the most important: every S class has a unique individuality. The W126 with its own Sacco's style character, the W140 with its greatness, the W220 with its sleek elegance and now the W221 with its 'boldness", which makes it one of the best looking cars on the street.
And one more thing: Mercedes-Benz models are always different, I mean, there's difference between the look of the E class and the S class, the offroaders has their own faces etc. Exteriors and interiors has their own personality, on every modell. Other car brands in this segment (BMW, Audi) has made the 'same face' strategy. And this is why Mercedes-Benz, as the oldest carmaker is so unique.

You are right "pinhead". With this unique design etc i feel MB won't dissapoint us with every new model ;) All this new cars are great piece no matter if it is the GLK, GL ML E S or CLA ;)

Well said!!! i mean still.. they dont show totally contradicting styling in their product range.. they still hold their DNA and special elements common to all their products... u know its obviously a merc grille.. but still there is a clear difference between SL and CLS. but u see the latest A4 and A6 differs only in dimensions on the exterior...!!!

but u know??? i feel MB should concentrate a bit more on the rear sides of their SUVs.. particularly GLK looks so blunt(the rear)!!!

You are right.. I do not like the ML taillights (except for the AMG version which suits me don't know why maybe because of the rear bumper which suits them better than orginal) the GL taillights are good but would be better and the GLK would have more dynamic lights (maybe some like in the new A ;))

I have to agree with pinhead with BMW and Audi, you can literally not see any difference between the 5 series and 7 series interior, which i think is sort of bland being that the 7 series is a flagship model, as the the exterior every generation they seem to adapt almost similar design

I had seen it yesterday, but didn't think much of it. It resembles the one seen in the winter testing photos in Sweden. The S-Class always seems to introduce a new steering design, dating back to 1991. The W140 introduced the sportier 4-spoke trapezoidal airbag steering wheel, which showed up later that year in other models(W124, W201, W463). As did the W220 in 1998. BTW, does anyone notice how the instrumental cluster isn't separated anymore from the COMAND screen?

Well, as I a child found it interesting how both the E32 and E34 looked nearly the same and also the E38 and E39. Back then, my mother couldn't make up her mind on whether she wanted a 7-series or 5-series(she chose the former). This was because she considered both of them to be nearly indistinguishable to each other and wasn't dead set on a flagship model as a late 30-something.

Steering wheel will most likely resemble the one in the ODC:

Until we don't have new pics, let's talk about something :) About S class headlamps: my favourite headlamp is the W220 headlamp. It's so unique, the form is like nothing before. It's like a part of a statue, so individualized.

Very true, I own a W220, and I absolutely love the design. It aged so well, like all S-Classes, but it just oozes class and elegance. I highly believe the W222 will evolve off the 220's headlight theme, as seen by many of our talented photoshop members.

The W220 has aged tremendously indeed. A clean example in silver with the AMG Package is still as hot as it was the day it came out, IMO.

It is very frustrating when I see photos of the Ocean Drive concept, why did Mercedes decide it isn't good enough to use any part of it for the next S class?

^Yes, I loved the surface treatment on the Ocean Drive concept - subtle but not boring, very MB, compared to slash/flame surfacing the production cars are really getting.

Towards the end of this vid Dieter Zetsche seems to hint the ODC may become a reality? :D

I wasn't talking about the car - there is a good chance a open top S class will happen. But I was talking about the design language, specifically the surface treatment and that seems long buried - but maybe I am wrong.
