Hey fellas, this came as an unexpected surprise.

McLaren is building a final edition of the SLR. It will be limited to 25 units. Most will probably go to the Middle East.

I believe the differences are limited to aesthetics only. No performance enhancements are offered. However, the steering and suspensions have been refined.

Personally, I applaud McLaren for doing this. Most of us thought McLaren abandoned the SLR after falling out with Mercedes.

I would have liked to see this final edition as the 'Director's Cut', that is, what the SLR should have always been according to the designer (Gordon Murray). Not just a SLR in drag. :D

very true, i think the designers must have taken inspiration from a stingray. Look carefully and you'll see the little gills on the top of the front quarter panels.

And it looks like McLaren removed a bunch of MB emblems (including "SLR" on the trunk) and replaced them with their logo.

    I'd still take a 722 coupe.

Forget about the kit. We all must admit the fact that after all those years, this car still looks stunning & gorgeous!! (y)

True,The SLR still looks brand new whenever u are lucky enough to see one in the streets.

722s for me over this anyday.

This is a hoax and you're looking at at riced up tuner SLR.

If this is real, show me some official statement from Daimler.

    Good eye. It IS aftermarket.

This is dodgy. Mclaren Automotive have wiped their hands off the SLR long along and have for the past year or so been totally focused on their own new born child, the MP4-12C. I can also add that the SLR is yester-decades car and its acumen as a sports car are no longer leading.

I would think SLR has had it's fifteen minutes , although I wonder how better the car would look if they applied the SLR StirlingMoss front end to the SLR.

Thank god the SLS is a better looking , resolved concept than the SLR.

I think McLaren must be doing this to bring in some cash flow to pay some bills before the production of the 12C begins.

I don't think it is an aftermarket effort as the McLaren badges are all over the car.

I hope it will be a success. I do share the feelings of some of us that this looks a little 'aftermarket'.

Weirdly enough it seems to be legit. This is equivalent of Schumacher coming out of retirement. Who is going to want to waste money on this thing when you can pick up a used SLR for half the money of a new one? There are so many SLRs on the used market that it's not even funny.

Its fine, we have already seen a few SLR with some vomit inducing after market body kits. This one comes with extra legitimate Mclaren badging so those people will love it even more.

It's real. It was at the Essen motorshow, of which I was just at on Wednesday. I've have a tonne of pictures from the motorshow, and yes I do have pictures of it. And yes it does say Mclaren edition. It also looks a whole lot better than the normal SLR. Mercedes Benz had a stand with about 12 supercars from past era right through to present (with the SLS As their latest car) and the SLR on the stand looked like shit compared to the McLaren Edition. And this is coming from someone who is hardly a Mercedes fan.

Edit: added some photos so you don't think I'm bullshitting :). Also added in a Brabus SLS just for the hell of it. The show was pretty cool, but the BMW presence was pretty scarce. Merc had a huge presence at the show. Bring on Geneva now!

I am surprised that McLaren was very quiet about this car. In any case, thanks for the pics!

They had another black SLR in another stand and it didn't look that great either. Somehow the McLaren SLR seemed a bit more resolved than the stock one. Suffice to say I've never been that impressed with the SLR, but that's only my opinion.

On the other hand I think the SLS looked great. The star cars of the show (or the ones I saw most often) were most definitely the SLS and the Audi A1. Other cars like the M3 and R8 seemed to take a backseat. Heck, even the 5-series was quite rare, I might have seen only 2 of them.

Either way, I'm looking forward to Geneva in March. It'll be my first major Autoshow. The fact that the Concept M5 is rumored to be there should be a plus. Probably will head to the Frankfurt autoshow as well.

I love being in Europe to attend these shows at a whim. Back home in New Zealand, the closest you could come to visiting these shows without paying through your nose, was to see the pictures.

My favourite SLR is the convertible. I've it in blue on two occasions and it's absolutely drop dead gorgeous. Probably only the Audi R8 V10 Spyder man measure up to its star quality as a convertible. It's no mystery that the SLR isn't visually as pleasing any longer, after all it's a fashion item. During it's reign and even now it doesn't go unnoticed unlike the SLS which is more conservative in its appearance with a more universal appeal. I remember at this year's Gumball there were quite a few SLRs and they were the biggest crowd pleasers.

    This is untouchable.
