Well, they called it an M, and an M it is. They can call it whatever they want. Another quick correction, it is not trying to be anything it isn't- it is what it is. BMW can and does have the right to define/redefine what an M car/truck, and they are not bound by any rigid ideological principles. Fair enough How? So, BMW changed their mind- they are free to. I believe you reserve the right to change your mind don't you... Business is war my friend, and just like war you don't show what your next move is until you have executed it. My sincere apologies however they have called it an M and that is the way it is. Maybe next time. I can't say I have read every one of them, then I will be lying. However this is what I have done; I have test driven the X5M and it does a marvelous job for an SUV and that is good enough for me- and that is all that matters to me. I could care less about what those so-called journalist think or say.
Of course they are. And I am free to comment on it, which is what I am doing. But, the fact that you seem to be a possible future customer for an M SUV then it is all becoming perfectly clear as to why you are so vehemently supportive of it, and also why I am wasting my time arguing with you. The X5/X6 M is an anachronism and is not a proper M. If you can live with that then good luck to you.
I'm glad you recognise that. I honestly wonder why you are wasting your time complaining about what a car company decides to do or not. These are your opinion of course. Anachronism it is not, evolution it is.
^ AND that is what I am doing, not living with it - enjoying the fact that there are SAV ///M. Proud of the fact that my favourite brand offers me the option of an M-Sport engineered SAV:t-drive:
I think it is great that BMW offers this and maybe the work done on the X5M and X6M is enough to please the SUV crowd? In that case; mission completed. But surely it can't be the badge that is important, right?
All you X5/X6 M "haters" are actually in love with those 2 cars since they got so much attention from you... Can't believe you're still complaining about those 2 cars... All i've heard so far from enthusiasts and few owners in Croatia is: My God how that thing looks, sounds and goes/drives... You don't like them and you'd never buy any of those? Fine. But there are plenty that would and those cars are made for them. Period. :t-cheers:
That is the whole point. BMW have with these two models built something completely different from what we have come to expect from M. New customers, new money. I know I would never buy an M SUV and that is fine, it is not a product I would ever consider (I want diesel in a truck ). However, I would consider an M1 or M3 but not if they have anything in common with the X5M and X6M in terms of execution or basic thaught because then BMW can't offer what I'm looking for. This is, however, for my part, only an academic discussion as BMW would never destroy the M1 and M3 in that way.
But didn't you get the notice? Betty's words and thoughts are a fact. If you don't share the same opinion you're either an ignorant idiot or a blind fanboy. So what's it going to be buddy? j/k
If it makes you feel better to frame it that way, then I guess you should. Well, cars are getting heavier(increased safety and gadgets requirements) thus requiring more powerful engines to move that mass. If you recognise this, then it will explain why more car manufacturers are taking the FI route. Now with the evil X twins, I only see it as a natural M portfolio expansion. I am surprised most people never saw this coming.
I'm still waiting to hear a decent argument for buying the X5 M over the X5 TT diesel. The only one so far is the M badge, which proves BMW were right. :eusa_danc
This debate regarding the M SUV's is growing stale, why don't we move on to somethinmg else......like how lame the "joy" campaign is?:eusa_doh:
I think the problem with the X5/X6 M isn't so much the forced induction engine, it's everything else! :eusa_doh: So no, the X5/X6 M is not the future. I actually don't care as much as it may seem. I don't have to buy the X5/X6 M do I? The only person who seems to care is you chonkoa, as you appear to be taking it as a personal insult to you that the X5/X6 M is dividing opinion. If anything, it's YOU who cannot accept other people's opinions.
The limits of X5M are much higher. Suspension allows better cornering. DPC is on board. Brakes are better. Gearbox is faster & much sportier. Engine is more potent & responsive. But just like M3 case etc. there is absolutely NO RATIONAL reason to own such a car. It's all up to buyer's wishes & "needs" why buying such a car. There are many who drive their 911s, Lambos, Ferraris, SLRs, R8s etc in the city only. And sometimes on the highway. More or less such cars are bought due to brand - for image & bragging. Not too much for true driving excitements. Unfortunately BMW is not immune to that either.
Yes, thanks. Somewhat stating the obvious though. Of course, all these are a given just by looking at the X5/X6 M on paper. My point is "why the need to have the limits higher?" Well, these is no need. The X5 TT diesel is a great piece of machinery. I think there is a place for it and when I spent a weekend with one I was thoroughly impressed. I'm not talking about the X5 M and saying it's not rational. An X5 TT diesel is not rational. I have no time for anybody saying buying cars is a rational decision. My point is there are better ways of satisfying that irrationality than the X5/X6 M. Somebody could desire a mobile phone/toaster. Sure you could make it and I'm sure somebody would buy it, but it doesn't mean it wouldn't be a completely ridiculous product. Chonkoa?
Are you sure you really don't care. You seem to have gone ballistic on this issue. Insulted- not at all. You are right about one thing though; I won't accept opinions with locus based on emotional, nostalgic or ideological predicates. However what I do accept are opinions that are based on facts or strong compelling objective arguments. So if I do come across as a self-opinionated person it is due to the aforementioned reasons.
