Take a guess about the engine for M6.

Imo, just like the last generation, the new car's numbers are gonna be somewhere around the new M5's figures too. If not the same!

If I had to guess, same as M5.
My dealer is saying the same as the M5, too.
Of course I hope for more, but I am definitely not getting my hopes up on this one.

But logically thinking....the M6 GC will be heavier than the M5, and much more expensive. If they give it the exact same engine as the M5, the M6 GC will be less fast......that doesn't sound right....

If the M6 ends up having the same power than M5 then shame on creative marketing and its M6>M5 claims.

I say between 571-580 PS. M5 was meant to come with such power figures but was then "detuned" to leave place for the M6. Also, the M6 GranCoupé is suposed to be the M flagship, but weighs 30-40 kg more than the M5. Only time will tell, because I remember rumors of the M3 E92 going to have 400 PS, but it ended up with 420 PS.

Yeah, we'll see....just don't get your hopes up because of 'creative marketing'

Hey, I have only said that the M6 is faster than the M5 in a straight line thanks to the lower centre of gravity thanks to its CFRP roof.
Anything else will be for you to judge.

It makes little sense. Low COG is felt on curves, not on straight lines. I think what you are saying is that the M6 is faster not because it has more power but be cause it is a bit lighter.
  10. klier Member

That is not what you said. You said more power.
Secondly, lower center of gravity makes it faster in a straight line? Have you drunk your Champagne early this year ;)

I would have thought that any improvement on performance would come from less weight and not more power. Oh and BTW what is Scott on about with lower CoG, this can only effect handling not straightline speed. :eusa_doh:

Should be a great car though. (y)

Apologies. I was playing Forza 4 with the children and I was coaching them to get M5 to drive fast in a straight line which I subsequently typed in error.

@ Klier - We are on our annual ski trip to Switzerland, so I was on brandy and beer and Paprika Shells.

    Same as always

Quite obviously the same 552 HP (560 PS) that the M5 sedan has albeit it would be less than a 2.5 ton that the sedan is.

600+. The M6 will be a beast for sure.

From the last M5 vs M6 to the X5 M vs X6 M it seems BMW prefers to stick with the same engine so I see the same engine in the M5 being used in the next M6.

my guess would be that same as m5. M6 gc will probably have more tho
  18. Deckhook Well-Known Member

I think it would have been better to have a poll on how much less weight the M6 will be than the M5 instead what difference the output will be.
  19. Levi68 Well-Known Member

M6 Coupé would weigh at least 35 kg less. But it will surely be more thanks to CF roof and maybe even some other lightweight materials/components.

How the heck does lower center of gravity help straight line performance? If any thing, it is the other way around and a higher center of gravity aids traction in some negligible way by transferring more weight to the rear. Maybe what you actually want to say is M6 being lower will have less drag and hence faster in a straight line.
