BMW’s X3 mini-SUV has always been derided for its poor off-road performance, which is why German tuning company Hartge modified it to make it a true ‘Hunter’ off the road. A ground clearance of 23 cm is achieved by longer spring/damper units, additional front spacer blocks and a set of 255/55 R18’s mounted on Hartge’s own light alloy wheels. This helps give it a larger angle of driving slope and an improved ramp angle all made possible despite the use of a stainless steel underbody skid plate.

A shortened axel ratio, combined with increased output from the 3.0L diesel engine (up to 253hp from 218hp) enables the Hunter to climb slopes of up to 48°. Further terrain capabilities are certified with a wading depth of 50 cm and an axle articulation index of 63 percent. For those looking for more hunting power however Hartge is able to tune the 3.0sd version to have 335hp instead of its 283hp by modifying the ECU.
With offroad driving in mind, many practical accessories have been included too, such as washable Sensatec seat covers and enough space for hunting gear including a tub for carrying the game.
