The idea couldn´t hjave ended up in a worse way. I remember when this was the MLK. The CGIs were far more promising. They need to get back to the MLK idea for the next generation. EDIT: Just searched for the MLK renders, quite old, but nicer than the GLK:
Angled and edgy can be great, and can really set a car apart, especially an SUV, but this thing is clearly too small to pull that off or something. The architecture is terrible, with the very small space for all these angles to try and coincide (like the greenhouse, lines, for example), which makes it look very awkward, jumbled, and beyond messy. It looks "cute and little but trying to pretend it's tough", which is a terrible look.
some fun, but probably unrelated, rumors about the "GLK" genesis SLK + G = GLK ? Some of you may have heard about the upcoming GLK compact SUV that was also supposed to be known as the X-Class or the MLK, to compete against BMW X3 and similar compact SUVs. I'm assuming that X wasn't chosen because of BMW's X3 and X5. And MLK just looks like Dr. King's initials. Anyway, have you ever seen this: http://www.4x4abc.com/JimRogers/ JimRogers.com: The Only Authorized Jim Rogers Website: Including The Millennium Adventure Looks like a raised SLK built to go offroad. I doubt that the actual GLK will look anything like this or whether this was even used to design the upcoming GLK. ~shahedC Slk + G = Glk ? - MBWorld.org Forums :t-cheers:
I like the shoe proportions. It's the fugly details that ruin this car. And a lot of them will be fixed with the FL... I mean, those new headlights look downright *GASP* nice now....
The really bad thing on the GLK is the upper sloped accent line. With all the fender buldges that line does not flow. The forward sloping accent line was used to add interest to otherwise bland designs, and offer the appearance of forward motion. The GLK has plenty of interest with all the other angles, etc. So this accent just doesn't fit with the design langauge. If MB would restamp the sheet metal to leave this out, I think you'd have a better looking vehicle. I don't know what the issue was with the head lights. I thought they were fine. The tail lamps are what I've always had a problem with.
I always thought the front headlights looked weird and the front just looked akward and weak. My other problem with the car is the interior. It is CHEAP.
The interior isn't horrible, certainly not as bad as the pre-FL C-Class. I'd like to see a revision to the air vents, as they do look and feel cheap. I saw a white GLK yesterday, certainly didn't look that bad. Lighter colors hide the angles well.
I am eagerly awaiting a new steering wheel and slightly revised dash to bring it more in line with the rest of the lineup.
My friend has a GLK, and I was in it a couple of weeks ago and it is cheap. From grabbing the door pulls of the interior to close the door and the plastic creeking, to the way the wood looks behind the steerging wheel, to how all the different angles don't correct especially between the door and dash. It's a design nightmare and the quality is actually worse than the Pre FL C class. At least the C class felt solid, this does not.
Some interior photos. Was hoping for more changes, especially with the plasticky air vents. 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Facelift Spy Shots
That interior needs an overall along the lines of what the C class got. This is by far the worst interior MB has produced in years, from quality to design.
I bought my mum a GLK350 AMG pack in black and I really, really like it. Definitely nicer than X3/Q5..
What they hell they running this little ice cream truck around the ring for..lol? New interior and new engines and a diesel for the U.S., all should arrive for the 2013 model year along with a new GL. M
