^ Can you make a distinction between yellow, green and blue?

No need to question his mental abilities with weird questions like those. Of course he can.

I'm not so sure many here can do it.

    Doesn't say much for F20 buyers. :)

Not what you or me perceive ugly. I'm talking about customer's personal perception.

There is no customer who walks into showroom, goes to F20 and says: "OMG, what an fugly car! But I'm gonna buy it anyway. It's BMW after all, so it can't be so bad. But what an ugly car!" :D

Jesus EnI. You really can't accept an ugly BMW when you see one can you, with these poetically waxed spinfests on the F20 and 5 GT.

You really need to quit while you're just this far behind.

    Actually it goes more like:

"I want to get into the BMW club, yet all I can afford is this one.... I don't particularly find it attractive, even the front is quite offensive, but it drives great, is a Bimmer, and will have to do. Once I get used to it, I can even convince myself into delusion that it's even attractive".

Or the badge is all they see...except for the numerical badges at the back.. best to remove those before they drive it out of the showroom. Perhaps I am being too cynical, but some people really don't care about the looks of their car. I have no doubt the F20 is a great BMW, give me a 135i and I will take it without hesitation.

Exactly. Especially when the badge does the talking, many people will buy cars they think are naturally ugly. I know many, people here have said it, and I myself have bought ugly things if they fit a functional necessity and I don't care enough.

    Really?

Remember Fiat Multipla (the original design, not the LCI).

To me, one of the ugliest cars ever. But people were buying it? Because of FIAT badge? Not really. And it wasn't the cheapest or most special (like 1er with RWD) car in the segment.

Why were some people buying Multipla? Perhaps ... they liked it. Or they find it attractively odd.

I'm not defending F20 here. Nor BMW. I'm defending my thesis people DO NOT buy things they find utterly ugly. No matter the brand.

OK - when some super ugly item is like unbelievably cheaper then the other, and you buy it since you don't care about the looks (eg a tool, appliance etc) ... or some other object that's not daily on display in your life. But hardly a car - which is not a cheap object. Not a flat. Not a house. Not a fancy dress. etc.

Things define use. They build our identity. They are statements. Especially premium things, especially things of greater values (eg cars). Nobody buys an ugly thing.

You guys have difficulties to accept some people accept, like or even love designs, looks, styling etc you yourselves consider ugly, or even fugly. Tastes are different. There's no absolute beauty, or absolute ugliness. There's no even an absolute truth. So even this write-up of mine is relative in that respect. ;) Period. :D

I think ALL minvans are ugly, but I will be buying one in the next 2 months due to it's function...

    Premise: I find minivans ugly
Premise: I will be buying a minifan
Conclusion: I do not buy thing that are ugly - FALSE

Bases on the logic, it seems your 'thesis' is incorrect.

Let's see if BMW has the balls to put the 1er face in the 2er and then try to sell it.

Chronic misunderstanding of ugly(ness), I presume.
  13. K-A Banned

The fact that someone can deny the *fact* that people will buy ugly cars (that they acknowledge yet don't care that is ugly) means that either they don't like to read the words that people write in even a sample size as small as this very thread, don't know anybody in real life - namely who don't care about cars, or just REALLY need to believe that the 1-Series is fine looking. :D

K-A is speaking from experience, he's driving the ugliest Mercedes currently in production ;)
  15. K-A Banned

I must certainly like ugly things then, 'cause I'm on my second one.

I guess I should be fortunate then, at least my girlfriend is smokin' hot. :)

unless you post a photo of her I won't believe you (y)

Very fortunately for me, I don't care. ;)

The badge sells, quality sells, the best offer sells ;)
Should I add more or that's enough ?
You want something premium and you are driving a 2nd hand car you bought just because it suits you and you can't afford better. You finally can afford the so desired premium car and you have always imagined yourself in "A BMW" but you can only afford a standard 120d... I wonder what do you buy then ? It's called ENTRY level thus meaning it's also for people entering the brand for the first time and thus giving them the AFFORDABLE PREMIUM car choice...
It's not beautiful... the badge will make it beautiful ;)
I sold many cars and trust me I know why people buy cars. Not saying that there are no people that buy the F20 because they thing it's good looking but don't say they are no people buying it no matter how they think it looks because there are and they are far away from being mentally sick...
Buying a BEAUTIFUL Porsche 911 and getting into debts and your family using public transportation because you don't have seats for your kids... that's mentally sick and some of us probably are as we are car enthusiasts ;)

the 120D isn't entry level, it's a couple of rungs up the ladder. ;)
