Its surprising that on this occasion the E63 actually has more power and torques per tonne than the M5 yet is still significately slower. M5 gearing must be better suited to acceleration than the Merc.

How many tests of these 3 cars are out there? lol.

There will be many more once the U.S. magazines get all three together, along with the CTS-V. The M5 and XFR kill the Benz on looks, but the Jaguar's interior is looks so outdated it isn't even funny. M5 please.

To me, the one area where the E always pops out ahead of the class in these many tests is when they show them together in pics. The XF is really nice, but IMO overrated by lots of these mags. The design looks a bit bubbly and characterless, and these outlines do a good job of showing as to why I like the E most out of the 3. The Jag's profile doesn't stack up, the 5's is predictably boring-ish yet elegantly fine and proper if not ungainly, and the E's is a lot more interestingly dynamic, especially with its crisper shape and more raked greenhouse (looks more modern yet nostalgic at the same time), IMO.

I don't know about that, especially if you are basing your assertions on this pictures, when, in fact, they are drawings that approximate the profile shape. And the way they've drawn the XFR, it comes off as a caricature rather than a good representation.

I think those are the actual outlines of the cars. Or at least the official dimensions photo's that the manufacturers provide. The XF looks preposterously bad though, so maybe not, at least in its case. Still, I feel that the XF is one of those cars where the styling is incredibly agreeable, but when it comes down to which one someone wants in their garage, they'd go with one of the other two. I really do like the car, but think that the German's alongside it are more interesting and refined to look at.

All of them are fine looking cars but only one tickles my fancy.

All 3 make a good case there.

At least they all take different approaches. It actually oddly enough makes sense that one person can think one is gorgeous and the next one is "blah". Depending on what you seek out of one of these, you'll see these cars very differently from the guy who has different visual priorities.

I don't truly love the E63's front bumper actually. I think the regular AMG Package bumper looks better, as it's a little more elegant, shapely, and not much less sporty.

^From those pics the E63 is definitely the most serious looking followed by the Jag then BMW,IMO.:)

I think each car's style plays to their respective marque's core strength. Mercedes-Benz has the resolute quality and the square, uprighted-ness of the E-class plays right to that. Jag has been about sleek lines akin to a graceful feline. BMW straddles both ends of the spectrum and does it well. And that's what appeals to me about the M5 and this particular generation of the M5....some days I want formality and some days I want grace in the lines. And with the F10, it's not as loud about being a hi-po M car as the E60 was, there's a bit more quiet dignity to it. The M5 would check all the boxes for me.

    I agree actually.

With the new front, the Jag fills some of the emotional void I sort of felt on the original. The E to me is quite emotional, hence it probably being the most polarizing as well, even with the fact that it's the most stately, squared, and staunch of the group. The F10 is very nice, and I know CGF loves it, but where it lacks is in the emotional and spice departments, especially compared with the E and XF. It's the most conservative of the bunch, IMO.

This Jag is one of the best looking sedans at the moment... what a beauty
The M5 and E63 cannot compete with it in the looks department :)
    That comes from a F10 M-Pack owner :D

Strangely enough, maybe its the lighting or the angle, but the E63 looks the best in that last set of pics.

Indeed it looks good but IMO the Jag is on another level :)
3 totally different cars design wise... yet they all are amazing :)

god man... AMG has gotton so close to M it`s not even funny!
The numbers, the feel exc... such a huge increase in performance with "better breakes" and "beautiful-balance" the journalists noted. The overall outcome 83 vs. 80, it`s amazing!

This goes to show you really can`t go wrong with either of these cars. The E63 is going to have an edge on the M5 with quality and reliability, without question!

(Looks like the CLS63 beat out the M5s track time)
