Autoexpress says - "The best M car for a long time? Undoubtedly." BMW 1-Series M Coupé | First Drive | Auto Express
Oh my goodness! Eventhough it hides all the aggressive bumper design, that black color looks absolutely sinister! Darth Vader like! Seems like it shows off the exaggerated flame surfacing the best of the 3 colors. Great to hear such a positive review on the 1M. Sounds like an absolute blast!
It's best if the front bumper is hidden,it's hideous. The car does sounds like a whole lot of fun thats for sure.:t-drive:

Carmagazine The 1-series M is a proper M car, no doubt. Sure, it’s different from what’s gone before, but different doesn’t mean it’s not as good. Our first experience of a proper turbocharged M Division machine has unveiled a 1-series with a character all its own. It’s definitely not a hotted-up 135i, and now we’re looking forward to the future of M. BMW M is steadily improving its steering too. The M3 has taken a step forward since launch in 2007, the helm of the latest Competition Pack cars offering up more clarity to the driver, and the steering of the 1-series M is even crisper. So far so goo then, the engine seem to deliver the expected M-experience despite forced induction, so it's apparent that BMW haven't just beefed up a straight six, stuffed it into a 135i body and called it a day. This speaks well for future turbo charged M cars.
....and I LOL at all the people who thought differently. Seriously. And that has NOTHING to do with being a BMW fanboy, it's all about common sense.
You can't blame the sceptics for their prejudice against forced induction M cars. It doesn't matter how good a turbod engine is, a naturally aspired engine will always be surperior in giving the driver the experience akin to throttling and braking a mechanical living organism. However, BMW does seem to have a grand job at marrying the thrills of a bespoke M engine with a reasonable price tag. Thus I find the 1M to be an worthwhile compromise for young buyers wanting to get on the M-ladder.
I agree, hopefully this can silence the cynic's for now,and they come to realize the M brand will continue in the right direction even while adapting to stricter emission standards.
I had no doubts about 1M but M5 still worries me. It all depends on the weight and power output if the M5 going to be great against the competition.
One thing is for sure: the next 1M is going to look pretty sick. As you all know, I have never been a fan of the 1er front because it just looked...scared/stupid. Nevertheless, if the spy photos and CGI renderings of the next 1er are in any way accurate, I can only imagine how sexy the next 1M will look.

Yep, as long as people don't expect the engine to be like in previous M cars. It seems good, but differently so.
It's like that old parable,"the only thing permanent is change". You might not get a sense of nostalgia with some of the new M's,but 1M seems to carry that old school rawness of some of the BM's of past times while introducing a new approach with it's engine configuration.
