I was about to disagree with you until I reached the part where it says the brakes are less pleased with repeated hard use, which I believe they're referring to spongy brake pedals same as the Murcielago/Gallardo :eusa_doh:

GTO for me without any hesitation.

As much as i love Ferrari..the aventador is just jaw dropping gorgeous.

I hate the white colour on the Aventador. It hides the crisp, like-a-fitted-suit lines. LP700 for me. Despite how amazing it is already, its even more amazing when you think that its going to be the WORST of the Aventadors. And its not track suited like the GTO, at least not this base version. We need to wait for the SV for that.

I agree, much more better in black

...the article starts with "one axtreme to the other"... ;) it's not a real comparo

I would just love to be fortunate enough to the position to have to chose between these two but if I did then it would be the Aventador hands down for no other reason than it looks so jaw droppingly beautiful. Anyway if I was spending this much on a car the last thing I would be doing is taking it on to a track with a group of nutters in their cars costing a tenth as much, these are the kind of cars you enjoy with a short blast through the mountains and then park up outside a little coffer shop just enjoying your espresso and admiring it.

This thread needs a poll! :)

    This I agree with, Bob.

Don't think that will be the case because if someone can afford a car like that, they will most definitely have friends owning cars within the same performance category and price range, and they can easily afford to hire the entire track for a day or two for fun in private, having said that, someone has actually taken their 599 GTO for a blast through the mountains.

Without driving any of these cars (and probably never will), I will go for the Aventador because of its combination of outrageous looks and the use of cutting edge technology to set a very high benchmark for others to reach.

As much as I love the 599 I must go with the Lambo here. The car is untouchable in the U.S. until Pagani gets their stuff straightened out.

As far as I recall, you are a VAG guy. Right Bob?

A thing of beauty is a thing of beauty no matter who owns it. In my eyes the 599GTO great though it probably is still isn't beautiful.

Aventador without even looking on the competition. There is no other phatter and monster car on this planet as this.. Oh god.

The only car I see threatening this is the Pagani Huayra, and it costs way more...making the Lambo look like a bargain. I too love this new Lambo. The VAG Empire strikes again, the first clean-sheet Lamborghini that is done right, no excuses. Dealer here in Dallas has one in the window too. Such a car, maybe thats why Ferrari isn't bothering with a facelift of the 599.

I'd have the GTO as well. Not as blatantly over the top as the Lambo, but in my eyes it's every bit the match for beauty.
Good article, but could have been better. I'd like to hear more about how each engine felt in terms of response, how the steering relays messages particularly in light of the Aventador's AWD. Interesting to note that the editor felt driving at 3/10ths is about all you could reasonably get out of these cars on public roads.
One point where the editor seems to be wrong is that the GTO is LHD only. Ferrari would not have compromised such a large part of its clientele. Something around 10% of GTO production have been sold in the UK alone. Very remarkable for such a relatively small population, and Ferrari has strong support among the wealthy of Hong Kong and the like.

Slap me silly with a wet fish! GTO is one of my all time favourites.

I am more of a handling and nimbleness guy than sheer straight line speed and for that reason, GTO is the choice for me.
