    Well, I am hoping for that yeah. The 3.0TFSI is a great choice. If they pump out 360hp from the 2.5TFSI (TT-RS), then 400hp+ wouldnt be a problem for the RS-Q5.

    I think the colour is Panther Black though whether it's under these lights or not I can't tell but it does look different in person.

    As soon as the SQ5 will come with a petrol engine, something like the engine from the S4 (3.0T, 333hp), then I will be placing my order for sure.

    What I like on Audi SUVs is that there are no plastic or even body painted fender add-ons. I find they look cheap.

    2013 Audi SQ5 TDI

    Two firsts from the S brand make a well-rounded performance vehicle.

    If you want to find out what's brewing deep within Audi, mark the annual Wörthersee GTI festival on your calendar. It’s there where pet projects get directly exposed to the VW Group’s bigwigs—namely advisory board chairman Ferdinand Piëch and CEO Martin Winterkorn—bypassing the more normal, hierarchical procedures. And if Piëch and Winterkorn like what they see, the concept might just show up in dealerships. Prime examples of vehicles that have taken this shortened idea-to-reality path include the 256-hp A1 Quattro and the vehicle discussed here, the SQ5 TDI.
    Gas to Diesel, Concept to Production
    The SQ5 was previewed three years ago in Austria as the Q5 Custom concept. Wider and lower than a standard Q5, and powered by a 408-hp, supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 gasoline engine, it was the starting point for an upcoming family of high-powered SQ models. But once engineering commenced, Audi decided to focus on a diesel version instead—the switch was triggered partly by the imminent availability of a sound-augmentation system, which would help provide appropriate noises for the first S crossover.

    It’s also the first time Audi’s high-performance group has worked on a diesel vehicle. The production SQ5 uses a twin-turbo, 313-hp, 3.0-liter V-6 TDI; it’s the same engine as is found in Europe’s A6 Avant, which we drove last year. The engine is both aggressive and impressive—it simply transforms the Q5's character when compared to the single-turbo, 3.0-liter 245-hp diesel that will be offered in the crossover here for 2014. The transformation is particularly noticeable when you select Dynamic mode, which sharpens the responses of the engine, chassis, and steering. There is far less turbo lag on the SQ5, and it delivers significantly more grunt across the entire powerband. This leap is a bit surprising: The regular Q5’s 3.0 TDI already produces 428 lb-ft of torque; the SQ5 engine increases that figure to 479 lb-ft, and it’s available from 1450 to 2800 rpm. And thanks to the artificially enhanced sound of the SQ5, there is no mistaking the two engines; the hi-po version is accompanied by a sharp, V-8–like growl that’s audible even from outside the vehicle.

    While the European Q5 3.0 TDI uses Audi's DL501 seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the SQ5 features the ZF-sourced 8HP eight-speed torque-converter automatic. (To add to the confusion, the Q5 3.0 diesel we will get here also uses the eight-speed auto, as does the rest of the updated U.S. Q5 lineup.) The conventional-auto choice may be a bit surprising, since dual-clutch transmissions are considered to be sportier than regular automatics, especially in Europe, but the DL501 couldn't handle the twin-turbo's extra torque without massive internal changes. Moreover, Audi insists there is no weight penalty for the eight-speed. Fortunately, we didn’t feel that the slushbox negatively affected the driving experience. The 8HP is very quick on its feet, and the additional shift sharpness typical of a performance-tuned DCT/gas-engine pairing would likely be lost given the diesel's inherently lazier character anyway.
    Quick, Not Dirty
    We predict the SQ5 TDI will reach 60 mph in a scant 4.9 seconds; top speed is a governed 155 mph. Fuel mileage, by contrast, should be relatively high—low 20s in the city and closer to 30 on the highway. While we already admire the base Q5’s on-road manners, the SQ5’s roadholding is really spectacular for an SUV, thanks to a stiffer suspension that’s lowered by 1.2 inches and tailored to the S model, as well as 20-inch wheels and 255/45 rubber (a 255/40 21-inch combination is optional). Turn-in is exceptionally sharp, and the steering is very direct. With a rear-biased 40/60 power distribution, the SQ5 remains neutral up to insane speeds. We had no access to a track on which to assess at-the-limit behavior, but the SQ5 delivered on a rainy morning on narrow roads and twisty alleys northeast of Munich.

    With its large wheels, aluminum-look exterior mirrors, dark and glossy grille, and quad exhaust outlets, the SQ5 TDI is a meaner animal than most other SUVs on the market, and certainly a worthy addition to Audi's S line of performance cars—make that performance vehicles now. It also is an addition we'd like to see in the U.S., particularly given that its markup in Europe is a reasonable (for this sort of thing) $6100 over a similarly equipped Q5 3.0 TDI. It would deliver near the economy of the Q5 hybrid, and run circles around that model to boot.
    Alas, the SQ5 TDI won’t come here; if we do get an SQ5, expect gas-fired propulsion, likely from an uprated version of the supercharged 3.0-liter six. The lucky Europeans, however, should be happy the SQ5 TDI escaped from idyllic Wörthersee.

    I've yet to own any car regardless of brand that I haven't had to upgrade the wheels to something bigger but on this occasion I think Audi have not only got the size right but the style of the rims too.

    Just been told today that the SQ5 order book isn't being released until later in the year (probably December) with production not starting until March, can't tell whether this is all of Europe or only the UK.

    I either hold firm with my order or look for something else, need to think this one through.

    Wow! 354 PS from this supercharged V6. I really like the supercharger. I have never driven it though, would love to. I guess the Porsche Macan S will then get this 354 PS V6.

    Off-topic: When will Porsche replace its current 4.8 V8 Turbo by the 4.0 TFSI?

    We all knew a petrol 3.0TFSI was coming in the SQ5, the surprise is the increase in output over the current S4/5. Does this possibly mean these two models will also receive a similar increase.
