Dealers are inviting interest in the car where you can put your name down if you like.

Is there any hint on the price?
  3. footie Banned

The price being rumoured from some of the UK dealers is slightly more than the RS5 but I would be a little surprised if true unless they are meaning a fully optioned out RS5.

Audi Quattro Concept Future To Be Decided by September

    Just the Facts:
•The future of Audi's Quattro Concept is to be decided before the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
•Quattro GmbH boss is "optimistic" it will be given the green light.
•It would take 2-3 years to develop the production car.
•RS versions of Q-series models have already been ruled out.

ZURICH, Switzerland — The future of the Audi Quattro Concept will not be decided until the eve of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Quattro GmbH boss Stephan Reil confirmed the final decision has been delayed but he is "optimistic" that the concept, which debuted at the 2010 Paris Auto Show last fall, will get the green light for production.

Speaking at the launch of the Audi Q3 crossover in Switzerland, Reil said the best solution would be "a small-volume exotic car with a production run of 500-1,000 cars." Hitting the target weight of 3,086 pounds would require, "the use of lots of exotic materials," which would necessitate a high price and low volumes. But there would be "no better way of demonstrating Audi's 'Ultra' lightweight technologies."

The RS5-derived engine will also need a major overhaul if it is to be successfully integrated into the bespoke aluminum chassis. "We need more power than the RS5," said Reil, "and it needs to be mounted longitudinally instead of transversely." Reil likened the scale of the project to the development of the R8, but claimed a production version could be ready in 2-3 years.

He admitted that Quattro GmbH already has a working prototype that is "so amazing." He also dismissed concerns that there is no direct link between the concept and motorsport, while its inspiration, the original Sport Quattro, was bred for rallying. "If you ask two guys about this, you will already get five different opinions," he said. "It is not a big thing."

Reil also confirmed that the RS brand would not be used on Q-series Audis due to the high center of gravity afforded by the SUV platforms. But he refused to rule out an RS version of the A7: "We did two generations of the RS6 so why not do an A7."

Inside Line says: In 2-3 years Audi will need another halo car, and the Quattro could be the perfect solution.

    The full text:

In a roundtable interview with quattro GmbH product boss Stefan Reil at the Geneva Motor Show this week, the German executive confirmed that a decision about the quattro Concept had been reached. Unfortunately for fans of the car, the car will not make it into production.

The large reason sighted was cost. In order to meet the extremely light weight targets of the project, the car would have been built entirely of expensive lightweight materials such as carbon fiber body panels and many components from aluminum and magnesium. Very little could have been shared from any current model Audi and that would have driven the price of this bespoke Audi coupe to a level where it was determined it would not have be viable and would have likely been north of the R8 GT.

This is an unfortunate turn of events for fans of the quattro Concept. Still, another rumor we heard at Geneva was that the design of the quattro Concept was heavily influenced by the new Audi design boss Wolfgang Egger. It wouldn't be all that surprising to see many themes explored by the quattro Concept implemented in future Audis.

Why? Why? Why? This car is IMO the most desirable Audi ever. This must have been the new Audi TT. They should just have called it R4, or even better R5 for its I5. This car could be the toughest rival against the Subaru WRX and Mitsubishi EVO, as plus to high perforamnce it would have high-quality and good looks. I'd prefere this over a turbocharged BMW M3.

    Sad day indeed...

Obviously, the Audi board has communicated that there is no business case for this car. I've heard that somewhere before... :eusa_thin

This really sucks. :( Seems the "info" about RS5 prices was bogus as even at projected prices well above R8 GT prices, they could not make the business case. Here's some coverage by R&T's blog from Geneva:

"This concept won’t make it to reality.
Work on a production version of the stunning Audi Quattro Concept that was unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show has been abandonded by Audi’s performance division, Quattro Gmbh. A company official said that the division, which is also hard at work on the revamp of the R8 due next year, just didn’t have the manpower or resources to manage both projects, while at the same time developing RS models for the A4 and A6. The Quattro would have used a shortened version of the A5 platform with a combination of aluminum space frame construction and a composite body in a vehicle with a target weight of just 2700 lbs. Like the concept, the car would haven powered all four wheels from a front longitudinally mounted turbo 5-cylinder engine."

You mean, all this was bogus?? Come on, it can't be, he even used the ';)' - the acclaimed seal of internet veracity.

ps. I can't believe, otherwise intelligent people still believe this fraud around here.

£76K is ok for the Quattro, I'd call it R5. The M3 E92 is at £55K and the R8 V8 is at £88K. The R5 should then just have replaced the R8 V8. It would be cheaper but yet perform better.

Audi Quattro hits the chopping block - report

Company wants to build another crossover instead

Audi has reportedly decided not to build a production version of the Quattro concept.
Car Magazine says the company has determined there isn't enough demand to support the proposed sports car. Instead, they want to offer a Range Rover Evoquecompetitor which could be called the Q-Coupe.
Little is known about the model, but Carsays it will have sporty styling and a rakish roofline. It could be based on the Q2 and feature a turbocharged five-cylinder engine which would be connected to a seven-speed S-tronic transmission and a quattro all-wheel drive system.

    Yupp. Co-sign.

I just want them to make this car!! Why oh why are the so no-go on it? It's probably the concept that got the most attention out of all Audis concepts, together with Le Mans and Nuvolari.
