What did you think of the quality of the interior Stutt? I've been hearing that it's actually worse than the pre F/L W220 on the MBWorld forums, and that the switchgear including Command knob is just painted plastic.
Both times I viewed the car it was at night time, but the second time I spent a good 20 mins just fiddling w/ the command system w/ the overheead/ rearview mirror lights on. The overall layout was very minimalist which was a major plus for me(major minimalist myself), as far as the actual build quality, it was "iffy" to say the least. I wasn't flabergased that's for sure, it's very plain jain, and while the 7er is much the same way, it's more interesting. One thing I really dont' like is how the main speedo and command system monitor are located all under one hub.
Ah, that is interesting. So how does it compare with the A8 - Mercedes are convinced the W221 interior build-quality is far superior - what do you think Stutt?
No way in hell. The A8 is leagues nicer than the S. To boot the MMI system is so incredibly easy to use, as well as it is a joy to fiddle w/. I think both MB and BMW should follow suit and come out w/ systems more closely related to the MMi interface used by Audi.
God I find that so depressing. It just annoys the hell out of me that if you want to buy the level of quality that we once came to expect from a Mercedes-Benz, you have to pay an obscene amount of money and buy a Maybach. Is Mercedes doomed to loose it's crown to BMW or Audi? - it's still hard to imagine.
Ive sat in the new S-Class and its the best car Ive seen in this segment! The Command 3 is not difficult to use, you can see everything detailed on the screen what you wanna use. A very nice system, and please dont trust anyone elses words about " A8 much more better interior than the S". Go find out by yourself!! You will see that the A8's interior will look like A6 interior comparing with the S . Saying that this car will sell only because of the name, is a shame!! Typically MB-hater words Something they will say every new model :werd: Guys please, go to a dealer and check the car by yourself. Its the best way.
Okay, thanks Kleemann - I will, I've been a bit lazy - I will make an effort to see it in person. BTW, I'm certain that Deutschlander is a Mercedes fan. Just because he doesn't like the new S class, doesn't automatically make him a "MB-hater".
I didnt say he is a MB-hater, I said that what he says are MB-haters words. These are words that I hear much more from MB-haters, isnt it??
MB haters or not but its true Mercedes sell cars cause of the star, the same goes for BMW and their propeller and also for Audi and their four rings. Imagine what would happen if Lexus had a strong image as MB, BMW and Audi. The brand name means a lot thats and its weird that there are people today still denying it. MB, BMW and Audi isnt all THAT...
You r right but, S-Class doenst sell because of the name MB, but because of the name "S" what means quality, as you can feel when you r sitting in it...
The contrasting comments on the quality makes me all the more willing to see it for myself. I hope all the claims MB has made are true.
its not like A8 and 7er lack quality when you sit in it. The S-class isnt excatly superior over A8 when it comes to quality interior but MB has always been more expensive than Audi and BMW.
From what Ive seen is S the one with best quality. I like the A8 but it doesnt feel special, what the S does!
seriously no one can say that the ionterior of the W221 is poor quality.. if they are saying that they are lying.. or live in a world of Maybachs and RR´s..
