2 Series [Spy Shots] 2015 BMW 2 Series Spy Pics & Info

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
couldnt even dream about it being that beautiful, given 1 series looks
kind of crazy to think that, probably since they were designed at the same time, how could they create this 2 series and then release 1er with that front and think "yeah, it will definitely do". or maybe 2er front was similar, but they changed it due to bad response

How whas it possible to let that abomination go to production?

Won't happen, but owners having alot of money to spend get the 2 Series fenders, bumper, headlights and foot and fit it on the 1 Series.

The current 1 series, or "that abomination" like you say, is a super sucesfull sales hit! much more than the old one, which was a hit year after year.

Did BMW put frameless doors on the 1er so that they could share them with the 2er ? That is a bit cheap if true.

So do the Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus. Do that make them less ugly? Nope. Same case with the 1er.

Sales numbers are not an excuse for an ugly car

Human, you a the biggest BMW fan on GCF, not Klier. If the 2 Series looked like the render above, you'd love it anyway. It's no more fun.

No mate, you are going to hurt Klier's feelings:D

Jokes aside and honestly though I really enjoy the BMW brand in so many ways, I simply like to many other cars to be "The Ultimate BMW Fanboy". If the perfect color/trim combo Audi A7, 3.0 TFSI quattro lands itself at the local dealer (which is new in town) it's mine baby! Ok, maybe I will think twice and wait for the 4er but I think you get the idea. I am not married to BMW as per se. I was born with Mercedes-Benz in my veins. When my late dad passed away the first thing I bought with my inheritance was a brand new W203 C-class C180 and one after that a C180 Kompressor.
It's the local M-B dealer and a 2nd hand E46 - 325Ci he let me drive and buy whilst I was waiting for my LCI W203 C200 that changed my world to: Welcome to the world of BMW.

I drive as many car brands as many Saturdays as possible. Just last Saturday the A-class was mine for 3 hours and after a Date&Nut Muffin + coffee at MUG&BEAN in our brand new Dihlabeng Shopping Mall and last drive back to the dealer, I decided M-B had gone all Korean. If you haven't had or driven a proper Benz, say you had a KIA Rio and you are "upgrading" to a M-B A-class, you are simply upgrading in PRICE. The new A-class hatch is a German badge with a KIA/Hyundai, Renault Clio, PSA, VW Polo etc. soul:(

Does anyone agree that the reason F20 looks so ugly and they allowed it go into production, is that it was intentional? I got to say BMW was pretty successful in that, still managing great sales numbers while not letting the 1er eat into the 3er (by using an ugly 1er face and a very nice aggressive 3er face).
I thought, like the previous generation, the FL of the hatch would come near the launch of the coupe, and they will get the same front? Maybe not exactly the same this time but at least slightly better?

I don't think it was intentional. At that time, they must have believed the design was revolutionary and that was their goal. Remember the E46 compact ?

But when response was not what they were hoping for, they fixed it for the 2er.

But historically, BMW, they always, and I mean ALWAYS, have some ugly designs in their lineup. Intentional or not, they just always do. For every X5 there is the X1 and for every 5er there is the 1er.

Doh.

Astounding that people genuinely think BMW would make changes to the design of the 2er based on feedback from people on the 1er or that BMW would deliberately make the 1er ugly so that the 2er looks better. The design of the 2er was far too progressed for that to happen. And who says people are complaining about the 1er? Seems to be selling pretty well to me. I'm sure BMW are very happy with the sales figures.

People really need to get real. A few opinions on car forums have absolutely ZERO influence on the market in general! I sometimes think this forum is populated mainly by teenagers who haven't the slightest idea about the world and how it works.

And I guess you are absolutely 100% correct, Betty. i would like to believe that some comments, suggestions and opinions are useful to the manufacurers. But lets get real, what's the chance!?

I just hope that better perceived and tactile quality issues of past was rectified becuase of feedback. I was so reall, into my soul hurt when I had my Saturday with the new A-class. And parking the F20 alongside the A-class, it's clear that (looks aside, for that is absolutely up to personal taste) the F20 is 5 years more mature, more practical and 20 years ahead with tactile and perceived quality inside. Thus if you are not a impulse buyer or brand snob, a real world test drive between two rivals can sell the F20 to anyone. I hate Korean Automotive offerings and if I have to be honest, it's becuase they are making such fast progress in such a short time. The new Rio simply feels better build than the new A-class. Luckily BMW and Audi's sales race and the competition between them has kept the F20 and A3 ahead of anything Premium and non-premium in their respective segment.

feedback from people

Of course not on forums, but based on data that is available from surveys and other marketing research bases, most of those on forums do not answer or contribute too. Companies also do not care about forums because they are not an accurate representation of the reasearched sample. But companies do get feedback from people, and now with help of social media and internet more than ever.

Companies do not need feedback for doing that. They know it very well. What they care about is that the customer does not notice that. Unfortunately, they do. Look at F30 owners criticism. The F30 has a cost reduction of around € 1.000 per car compared to E90. That is ALOT of saving for BMW. BMW will definitely not increase quality.

Levi, STOP misquoting me!! I know full well manufacturers get feedback on various items, before and after products are launched.

What I said was.....

I'm saying the time gap between the 1 Series and the 2 Series is too short for any influence on the 2er design based on what people think of the 1er. Jesus!!

Yes yes yes I know that, and the 2er is a 2-door. Back to my question, are their windshields identical in size and angle ?

As on the previous 1 Series E8X, the door doors coupé and hatch, had the same framless window doors, the angle of the windshield was the same so as the height of the glasshouse. See blueprints to compare. On the 2 Series F22 it is not yet easy to tell, but it looks like windshield inclination if different, (or windshield height?). But what is for quite certain is that the glasshouse is narrower and roof line lower. Door is the same, but glass of the door is different.

Sorry.

Indeed no changes were made based on opinions once the product was designed and ready for production.

But last minuit changes are possible, they are part of a companies flexibility. But this flexibility has more to do with technical issues and such, rather than taste.

Change due to resemblance with Audi A4 B7.

Latest case: 6 Series F13

Doors, front fenders and the hood are identical on both 1-Series 3dr. and 2-Series :)
You'll only need to replace the headlights, kidneys and the bumper.
There should be some aftermarket kits in the future... so go buy your new 1-Series, Levi!

Exactly what i just wanted to say, it looks like a lot of difference but looks like everything else is compatible.. I'm sure you can't simply buy a 2er bumper from BMW to fit on the pre-LCI 1er, i had that experience before when playing with my E46 before, the clips etc. will be made to be incompatible.

I thaught the market would be flooded by E90 pre-to-post FL kits, but no, there were so many changes under the skin, that the conversion proved rather expensive.
