Oh no Martin, for that kinda money I rather have a SL or used Granturismo. My experience with such hi-po convertibles is that they rattle themselves to bits in a few years. I'd get a "regular" 650i Convertible with the M-pack if go that route. I still think think I'm going with the M5 and then I'll replace the CLK with a SL or Granturismo in a couple years.

^ A Granturismo rattles from day one ;)

The SL will not rattle in 15 years :D

It would be a coupe. The car is so sexy, far more alluring than anything German, IMO. The sound, the smell, the look. They're just damn expensive, even used....if you want one is good shape. I'm hoping to find one of these new Granturismo Sport models in a few years for the right price. Either that or a SL.

M5 order books open on April 23rd here in the U.S. I will be at the dealer after work that evening. I'm thking Alpine White, still not sure what color interior yet.

I'd say black, with Alpine white exterior....

As for the GranTurismo...well, I've driven it a couple of times (a friend's father has one), and quite frankly the looks are nice, sure, but the whole package is a full league below the German competition.....I cannot even imagine how much better then new SL will drive compared to it. Heck, even the old SL was a better car easy.

Oh yes the German cars are far superior technology/build/everyday quality wise, but there is just something about the car. Who knows maybe when I drive one I won't like it. Heck in 2+ years I might be over the SL and the Granturismo.

Too hot in Texas for a Black interior IMO.

You haven't yet? I can already say you won't like it. I think I know your style a little by now, and I understand one can be exited because it's a Maserati and it has the looks, but it's a highly unrefined car.....and it has a lousy build quality, sometimes downright crappy interior materials and ancient tech.

Go drive one, and let us know what you think. I'm interested to hear!
Oh, and me personally, I wouldn't go for a white M5. But maybe it's a smart move when you live in a desert.

Ok will do Klier. The other choice for the M5 would be Imperial Blue. Never knew how good it looks until I saw a regular 5er wearing it a few days ago.

Klier is right, better go try one. If only its quality and reliablity was german-like, this car could have sold so much better. But I tell you don't expect 911 driving experience.

I've heard the GT drives like a POS as well. Still, the looks and understatedly and "livably" exotic aura and sound alone make it possibly worth it.

I'm really curious about it now for real. I can't believe it would be that bad and people pay all that money for them?? In the North Dallas area I see one every day. I mean newer ones at that.

Alpine white with Sakhir orange and piano black trim is a winning combination IMO.

^ Holy crap that's sick looking!!! I take back my statement of not wanting a white M5. I want an M5 in every color, damn!

Merc, regarding the Maser; it's the bling bling and the fact people think they have a car that's as exclusive and expensive as a Ferrari. Yet, the cheapest Ferrari is twice as expensive.
POS is maybe a bit over the top, but surely, the car isn't refined enough. Particularly for the money they ask for it.

    OMG, I can't stand that Sakhir orange....lol.

I couldn't look at that for the next few years!

It's mainly for the looks, charm, and exclusivity. Also, the sound is apparently intoxicating. Interior smells intoxicating as well, and leather is gorgeous, though fit and finish isn't the greatest.

My friend described it as a "clunker", when he drives it. Though, it's an Italian, and as crazy as it sounds, being finicky, imperfect, non-clinically perfect, I guess adds to the soul and experience of it.
