X5 E70 BMW X5 Facelift Thread (Spy pics & info)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

The engine lineup of the X5 facelift won't contain any surprises. It will be aligned with the X6's lineup and feature 35i, 50i and 40d engines. The latter is already known in the 7 series and will be available in the X6 either.

The year is almost over and no press release yet. I doubt it will be at Detroit show.

What about the much hyped tri turbo diesel? Is that the 40d?

I thought Scott said that X5 diesel will be the first to have tri-turbo diesel??
The twin turbo 40d got introduced in the 7 less than three months ago and is a new development, either. The similar output for the X5 40d and the 740d hint at the same engine being used. I have no information on the tri-turbo, but it won't be part of the X5 LCI. It may come later. :t-hands:

I said it would be launched in an X vehicle but I did not say it would be coming with the LCI.
It is now undergoing Cold weather testing in Sweden in a variety of cars.

There is advocation for introducing the Tri-Turbo diesel on either the LCi of the X6 or indeed the 6er Coupe.
The current 635d is THE only large permium Coupe with a diesel engine. It also is in europe , the best selling 6er model.

Tri-turbo I6 diesel for the F12 sounds very good.
That is, if F12 still exists.

You said X5, not specifying LCI, but X5 in the end.

It's quite clear that Scott doesn't want to reveal it yet. Notice how he's deliberately avoiding the question from EMpower and thierry09 and instead responded about the 3er LCI?

You might as well do this :t-banghea.
Hahahaha.. you're right Betty!:D
But still, what is so important about this model LCI??:t-hands: this is just another BMW model's minor change not an all new one!
Is that maybe because they have a lot of stock of the current model & they want to sold it out first, so they still don't tell the people yet when the facelifted model will be launched? :t-hands:
oh Scotty, so you still don't want to answer this question huh?

Dude it's all about marketing. For them, the FL is the new push, the X5 isn't. So, of course he is going to push the LCI models because they aren't concerned about the X5 yet. Everything has to be done according to timing...and it isn't the X5's time yet. ;)

We all know why Scott is ignoring the questions. Some people don't understand that BMW have a free outlet for their marketing on this forum.

I am not ignoring your questions. If you want to ask me anything specific then PM me. I do not spend all day looking through threads.

Regarding your question, both the BMW 3er Coupe and Cabrio LCi and the X5 LCi were filmed in South Africa in late November, I was working on the 3er (E92/E93) and finished before I broke up for Christmas.
I am not at Detroit and am not officially working on the X5. I presumed the X5 would debut there because of it's North American connections, But the release is imminent. I do know that BMW NA are also doing photography because our presentation car is a X5 xDrive40d a car that will not be sold in the US Market. So I am not involved there.

There has also been some delays and setbacks with debuts postponed especially in the guise of the MINI Crossover (now debuting @ Geneva) and the pre-production Concept of an X3 using a hybrid drivetrain. Now replaced by the original Geneva bound 1er Active E Concept. I will be getting straight into our Geneva Premieres when I return to work on Tuesday.

The E92/E93 will debut next week not @ Detroit. And will be one of 10 World and European Premieres@ Geneva.
